Which Basic Shampoo?

I am looking to buy a shampoo for when i bath my piggies, i haven't done it yet, they are still young but i have an older girl who is about 1 who can do with one in a few weeks i think, when i feel brave enough to.

I live in Sweden and it's really hard to me to find any in the pet shops, only one shop had some and it was £15 for 120ml! I have had a look online and have found I can get the "JVP Small Animal Shampoo" and the postage is actually bearable, has anyone used this? Is it ok? I just want it as a basic shampoo as i know i can get Gorgeous Guineas if they have any skin troubles.

And also, at what age do you start bathing piggies? My babies are just over 2 months now.

Hi there - I use small animal shampoo from Pets at Home...never used this one though - I started bathing them monthly from about 5 mo old
 
I can't see the ingredients, so I'm not sure, to be honest. The thing that's particularly good about Gorgeous Guineas shampoos is that the detergent is very mild (doesn't contain sulfates).

I saw on another site it says "A special mild, non-irritant shampoo for pet rabbits, guinea pigs,
ferrets, etc. Gently cleans and deodorises and contains a natural
insect repellent to help to repel fleas, mites, etc."

and " natural biodegradable Pyrethrins." is something else used, but no ingredients.
The thing with GG is that its nearly £5 postage on top of the shampoo :(
 
I've got no hair, so I don't have the problem of choosing one over the other! :))

I suspect it has a sulfate detergent base, as the vast majority of shampoos do. I personally wouldn't want to use anything with pyrethrins in. There are a lot of people who think they aren't safe for small animals, so I wouldn't want to take the risk.
 
The one you've linked to is a good general shampoo. If you're wanting something more specialised then try Gorgeous Guineas range of products.

now i am confused, the picture on the one i was looking at is the same bottle and it has the johnsons logo i can now see is the same. Maybe jvp means johnsons something? or maybe the listing photo is wrong. Hmm. Thanks for your replies i will get something sorted
 
That actually makes sense... I like the sound of the johnsons one if they smell nice, i am a fan of johnsons talc hehe
 
Yes JVP stands for Johnson's veterinary products. They do a wide range of products ranging from disinfectant to mite spray to shampoos. They do two kinds of shampoo for small animals, the insecticidal version and the normal version. I have used both :)

oh thanks very much for clearing that up! I shall get myself a bottle :)

Also if anyone reads this, i wanted to get some thing for if i nick the wick of the nails (think its called that?) I have seen a couple online one called Blood Stop swabs but it says cats and dogs on it, or i saw super nail nick safe styptic powder from the USA. Has anyone used these? Or can recommend some i can buy online easily? Thanks again
 
I swear by Gorgeous Guineas shampoo, and dipping piggy nails in flour stops the bleeding (if this doesn't work then a vet visit is recommended) x
