Ok so what bedding do you use?
I have changed to megazorb and am so so pleased with it, its so much nicer to use and i would say warmer too.

I use towels and fleece :)
My piggies love it and it's very soft on the little feet.
I wont use any other bedding now xx

do they not wee and poop on it?
mine are outdoor piggies and live as natural as possible so couldnt use anything like that but i do love seeing the pics on here of them cuddled up in the fleeces its so cute.:(|)

Ive always wanted to try fleece but i wonder if it is smelly? My piggy's live indoors and i use megazorb, newspaper and hay.
I also wonder if the hay is hard to get off?

I use newspaper and hay, with a bit of sawdust in the litter tray. I tried fleeces but with the 4 together it gets too poopy. They did love it but it didn't stay clean enough.

Just trying fleece

I am just trying out fleeces for my boys. I have changed over one cage at the weekend which has my single boy and so far so good. Just put the two young brothers (who are the smelliest!) onto fleece tonight so will see how it goes before changing the oldest 2.
I have used layers of newspaper and double layered fleece. Have found it easy to brush the poops off so far. Just shook it outside to get rid of the hay.
I have to be sure they don't smell as I am a childminder and they live in the living room where I have the children so vital they don't get smelly or grubby.rolleyes

Oh let me how you get on i-love-pigs as i may try mine then. I'm not convinced that it wont smell and the hay will be hard to get off? :p

i would be interested too as i cant see how it wont smell if urine is passing through it, i know it does when i have used it for foster pups etc.

I have to admit I have been sceptical and have spent most of the last few days sticking my head in Rockys cage :red to see if he smells (hard to tell who stinks when there are 3 lots!)
It seems to me - and I could be wrong - that the wetness soaks away better than the wood shavings and hay I have been using, it doesn't sit on top. And I think it almost seems to dry out quickly. And cos I can brush off the poops they are not sitting around being smelly.
As for the hay I just gave it a good shake and most came off. I seem to remember reading on here somewhere to put the dirty fleeces into a pillow case when in the washing machine so that any stray bits of hay don't bung up the machine.
I will see how it goes!;)

i use fleece underneath i have puppy pads to contain the wee then towels and newspaper.it wont smell as long as you change regularly

Hmmm i think i will be trying fleece once all my megazorb has gone. I can always go back. I did read that the fleece soaks the wet away but then i thought the towels would smell?
What kind of towels do you use?

I use vet bed for all of my boys with a layer of newspaper underneath and it is excellent. not smelly and I have a stiff brush that I brush off the hay and poops with and it works really well. I bought a whole roll from ebay and cut it to size. stays really dry and the boys love it causes less mess when cleaning out and much quicker. Brush off and sling it in the washing machine. dries in 20 mins. :)

I also use Vetbed with newspaper underneath, and would not use anything else.It keep the girls nice and warm and dry,and it is easy to brush off all the solid bits before washing.

Yes they do and they are indoor piggies :))
I spot clean it everyday and full clean every 2 days xx

Cleaning Fleece

I spot clean every day by that i mean i brush up all spilt food, hay and poop's then on a full clean i brush off all the little bits and pop it in to the machine for a wash.
As long as spot clean everyday and do a full clean every other day you wont have a problem.
Hope this help's you all xx

I'm new to pigs but I have done HEAPS of research before finally getting pigs and decided to try fleece and towels right away. I have found that 1 layer of fleece over 4 layers of towels keep my cage smell-free for up to three days. The poop is easy enough to shake off (in between changes I just use a little brush and dustpan) but the hay does stick. I serve the hay in a separate plastic crate with paper based kitty litter bedding. It keeps the fleece a little cleaner, but I still do poop-duty twice a day. It's not a big chore though, I just do it when I stop by their cage for a chat.

Good things with fleece: Pigs like it, less waste (which is good if you don't have a compost), looks nice, no dust, no problems with bedding getting stuck places it shouldn't, cheap in the long run
Less fantastic things with flece: Lots of washing, hay gets stuck, need to change 2-4 times a week, a bit of an investment at first. (I don't have my own washing machine so I've bought many sets so that I can wash piggie stuff just once a week)

Also I've found that there are huge differences in how well the fleece wicks... Fleece gets better with every wash and it's better to go with a thinner kind of fleece than say IKEAs Polarvide which is quite thick.

i am a user of fleece too,i have all 13 of my boys on it,i change them every 2 days and do daily spot cleans, boys are considered stinkier than girls but i barely smell a thing with mine,
i have newspaper then towel and then double layered fleece, half of mine are also toilet trained so i get even less mess, its perfect, supersoft on there feet, looks great, good for pigs with allergies or hayfever(one of my boys has this and it is fairly common)also much easier to spot changes in pee colour which can be vital in detecting sick piggies, and apart from a small amount of money to wash it isn't an ongoing expense like most other things are,i find tnick fleece best,it ideally should be washed at least 3-4 times to break down the invisible barrier before use, never ever use fabric softner on it and i have found washing on hotter than 40 degrees celcius can wreck fleecexxx

So it seems that it stays fresh for 2-3 days, i think thats quite impressive and i take my hat off to all you piggy people who take such good care of you babies.

There's no sticky review in the "housing" category on fleece. Should we do one? Seems like we are quite a few people who use fleece for bedding...
