My two girls are putting on a bit of weight, and i wondered which fruit and veg are high in calories, and should be limited, other than obvious high sugar ones, like grapes and pears. Also, how much should they have?
They have lots of hay, and only the recommended amount of pellets(Oxbow Cavy Cuisine).I feed them veg,and sometimes fruit, twice a day. They have(not all at once!)broccoli ,dandelions, cauliflower greens, watercress, parsley, cucumber, chicory, carrots, tomato, sweet peppers, apple, honeydew melon, and occasionally a grape or small piece of pear.

I have had a good look through the information you sent me ,and i am puzzled about one thing.
Books i have read, including Peter Gurney's, say lettuce should only be given occasionally, but your information says it can be given every day

Information in these books is often very outdated. The only lettuce pigs can't have is iceberg which is mostly water and of little nutritional value. As with all new foods, lettuces need to be introduced gradually to prevent tummy upsets but the likes of Romaine lettuce are among the most favoured and nutritious foods a piggy can have.

Thank you for clearing that up !
My guineas will be very pleased,as they love lettuce, but i have only fed it to them occasionally up to now.
I will start gradually phasing it into their diet straight away.
