This might be a stupid question but I was just wondering which fruit and veg are OK to give Guinea pigs regularly?

Since I got my 2 boys a few weeks ago I've just been giving them carrots, cucumber and broccoli and I wonder if that's a bit too repetitive for them? I'd like to give them a bit more variety but unsure what else to give them, as I understand that apples could give them ulcers and certain lettuces are dangerous?

Thanks in advance for your help :)

lettuces are absolutely fine and a really good option, although i'd stay away from iceberg.

basically you want to feed a small amount of leafy greens each day. if you want to feed non-leafy greens aswell then only include a small amount. most leafy greens are medium to high calcium as you've probably read, however they should cause no problems when fed everyday in small amounts and are still the recommended choice by the top vets. this is because leafy greens are mostly made up of water so more beneficial than feeding other veg, like sugary carrots etc. plus, you would have to feed a very large amount of leafy greens to over-do the calcium (compared to pellets where it's very easy to quickly over-do the calcium) - so most piggies will beable to handle this unless their own body specifically cannot handle calcium - my mollie is an example of this and therefore her main fresh food is a variety of lettuces. (our very specialist vet told me all this info)

just try to feed mainly leafy greens, with small amounts of other veggies if you want to, and rotate as often as possible :)

eta: introduce one at a time slowly as always though :)

Hi thank you both for your help :)

I hadn't even thought of bell peppers so will give them a try with that, also thanks for the advice about leefy greens, I hadn't really realised before that carrots can contain too much sugar if overdone so that's worth knowing.

Thanks again!
