After reading a few posts about hay i recently bought the sample pack from hay for pets. The one i got from a local farm my poor little guinea pigs got mange mites - currently being treated for.
The piggies seemed to prefer Ings hay.I don't know what the difference is between medow, timothy and ings hay as they eat all three types.
I have gone back to ASDA hay £4.50 for 3.5kg as you do get a lot for your money.
Any recommendations of which is the best hay to get?
i use the ings hay as their main meadow hay in their litter trays, although this time it wasn't soft enough for burrowing so had to order something else. the majority of the time it is soft enough though. the ings i am using inside tunnels, kitchen tubes, on top of wooden houses etc and it's fine for that. i do like them to have a stalkier hay to eat aswell as a softer one to burrow in.
the actual soft meadow hay from them is usually very soft but i don't think it keeps aswell as the ings. the ings always seems much fresher, i wonder if it's to do with the fact it is organically grown?
all three are fine. it depends if you'll be putting it mainly in trays/on the floor or in hay racks. but all three are good quality so just go with what the prefer. mine much prefer the ings over the others though. i usually mix another hay with it aswell like the oxbow orchard grass which they love
ings is meadow hay aswell, just their own organically grown brand
eta: the timothy hay from timothyhay.co.uk is always excellent quality and a good price for the amount
