Which hay

Morning everyone, I feed the girls burgess timothy hay the one with marigold & dandelion. I was looking online & seen you get a grass version, Iv added the links. I wandered if the grass version is better without the marigolds & dandelions? Any advice very appreciated as just want the girls to be having the best option for their health. Thank you for reading

The dandelion version I would consider as a treat hay and wouldn’t feed it for everyday.

I also agree about it being an expensive way to buy it - of course that is entirely up to you though!
i use haybox and have my deliveries on subscription, the boxes are large so you do need to have the storage space but it is excellent quality hay and cheaper than buying the bags in your links.
If you have a farm shop which sells bales or a horse supplier, is another way to buy hay cheaper (storage space permitting)

Hello, sorry I pressed the laughing emoji instead of the love one to like post. Thank you for replying. Iv been feeding the girls the dandelion one thinking it was the right one! No wander the aren’t eating their hay as much as they were doing. I can’t believe Iv been feeding them treat version since Iv had them. Just as well I posted on here to check. They are definitely not eating the hay as much as before & that’s been 2 days on the plain hay. It was pets at home Timothy as their was no Burgess in stock & they are hardly eating it. Do you think I should stop fresh food & pellets & just give hay to get them eating it again? Thank you for letting me know about haybox. I just thought burgess was best for them & didn’t really want to give the pets at home version but had to as their was none in. Just want the best for them & as a new owner thought it had to be burgess x

Both are lovely hay and will work our cheeper if you have the cash to buy it and space to store it.

Help, thank you for replying. Silly me thinking it had to be burgess as it was the best! Iv been feeding the girls the treat version since we got them not realising this! No wander they aren’t eating the pets at home plain Timothy hay! I got it as Burgess was out of stock. I need to look at a cheaper alternative I guess as it is very expensive. I thought I was giving them the best so thankful I posted on here now x

There is nothing wrong with the hay in itself, it’s just that sticking to a good quality grass hay without these flavourings can help limit issues with them preferring these nice flavours and then won’t eat anything plain. It doesn’t have to be burgess, any good quality Timothy is fine but also, even with plain Timothy some piggies will just prefer on brand over another
I wouldn’t stop the fresh food, but you could not give them their pellets to encourage more hay eating but do watch them and weigh them to ensure they are actually eating it

Thank you, I really hope the girls start eating the hay after this. Since I put the plain hay they are hardly touching this. It’s such a worry because my mums rabbit wouldn’t eat hay so I’m so paranoid that this will happen to them now. Will take away pellets for now & hope they will start eating the hay. It may be that it’s because it’s the pets at home Timothy hay & that they don’t like it so will need to get another brand x
 
In the beginning I was buying a hay from my local pet shop. This was perfectly acceptable to them, they ate it, no problems. I couldn’t get it on one occasion so had to buy an Oxbow hay (it’s rather expensive so wasn’t pleased!) but they loved it and then refused the normal pet shop Timothy. I then discovered haybox which they absolutely devour and now nothing else comes close. It took a little while to get my frequency and amounts of deliveries right when I first started using haybox and on one occasion I was a few days out from my next delivery, had to get an emergency bag of Oxbow which they were not completely happy about despite the fact it had been the best thing ever just a couple of months earlier! I never run out of Haybox now I have my subscription set just right!

Funnily enough my 7 year old rabbit has always been funny about hay, he picks at it, has just been so difficult, he’d eat one type for a while and then not want it, ld try another which would be fine for a while and the cycle repeated. Since switching to haybox, even he is now eager to get into his daily hay pile!

So glad they are enjoying hatbox now ❤️ My mums rabbit who had to be put to sleep would just not eat hay & he had very bad dental issues so not eating the hay only made that worse. I wish breeders would know more about dental issues in both rabbits & guinea pigs as it was definitely a genetic condition passed down somewhere in the breeding line. He was a house rabbit a giant & a darling. I will look at hatbox now for my girls as I would love to order hay so as never to run out & worry about it not being in stock in shops. I think exactly the same thing has happened to these 2 little monkeys just not liking the hay as they got used to the treat version. They have finished the last of their pellets now & had cucumber & bell pepper. No wander they were going through the hay like it was the best thing since sliced bread! They will have to make do just now with the pets at home till I get some ordered for them. Thank you so much for letting me know about haybox x

Just had a look on haybox & the hay looks so good & fresh. Will be putting an order in today so glad you mentioned it ❤️ X

Some of the bigger ones were out of stock but they had the 5kg for £19.95 but at checkout was £39.90? Is that normal delivery as that’s quite expensive x

It sounds as if you’ve got two in your basket
 
That explains it then!
When they offer their bulk service again, the cost per kg goes down so you can order 10kg for cheaper than two 5kg boxes but they have withdrawn their bulk offer for new customers during the current situation

Iv now ordered 1 box 🙈 so can’t wait to see how the girls like it & will set up a subscription after all this is over x

Hi, just wanted to say I got the haybox hay & it’s amazing. The girls are loving it & it was so fresh & worth it. Thank you for telling me about it so glad I found it x
