Have just recently got two guineas and for the first time am keeping them outdoors. They've got a single storey hutch, but the neighborhood cats keep peering in and I'm paranoid they're going to get in, even tho its bolted! Of the two storey hutches available, does anyone recommend a particular model? It must have a lockable trapdoor so I can shut off the bottom level at night. Thanks

:) Welcome to the forum! What kind of wire does your hutch have? :) If it is mesh then I recommend a hutch with the fox proof plastic bars, that way... no cats can get in! :(|)

Thanks for the tip. It is a wire mesh front and although it was given to me, * can still buy it in PaH. It does advertise it as being fox proof but it still scares me! The next home I get them will be bigger and I want to go for the two storey so that their living quarters are less accessible to other animals. Do guinea pigs actually use ramps though? ! And have they ever fallen down the hole?!

I don't think a cat will get in unless the door can be opened. I have 5 cats and they've never gotten into my hutches, even my old one that had flimsy wire. Cats are much less strong than dogs or foxes in that way.

Guinea pigs can use ramps although not all will. Some people modify the ramp so it's not as steep (you can put a brick underneath the bottom) or make sides for it. :)

You could maybe get a hutch cover for your hutch so if you are worried about the cat, it would have to get through that first and then the mesh and I really dont hink a cat would bother going to all that trouble.

Thanks for all your advice everyone, and that hutch in the link is Fab! The only issue I'd have with it is that there's no trapdoor to shut for the night! And I'm not too good at diying etc. Have seen quite a good Rabbitshack one that's a good size that seems to have all that I need... ive got so many questions! I'd like to know more about bedding too! Seems like everyone is using something different! Should I be getting this Carefresh stuff, should I be using towels and fleece?! Don't the materials get chewed?
