I wonder if you experts could help us determine which of our boars is the dominant ones so we can better follow the handling hierarchy. I'll describe them and their behaviours and see what you think! We have Max and Reggie, super cute rescue boars we've had since April 2025.
Max: bigger of the two, he is also greedier and has been known to steal food from Reggie. Max is quieter, calmer and will stay longer for lap time. He also seems to tolerate traveling by car in the carrier better than Reggie. We hear him squealing to Reggie sometimes, as if he is worried. Bit they do squeak to each other quite often.
Reggie: smaller, much more adventurous, always the first out the door and first back in to inspect our work cleaning them out. Very inquisitive, but much less tolerant of lap time. Reggie does the bulk of the rumbling and strutting, and also the majority of wheeling for treats. He's also much fussier with food!
Seems obvious that Reggie might be dominant, but he gets very anxious if Max is separated from him even for moments, and when they travel Reggie hates it and will hide on or under Max. He also lets Max take food from him.
They are the cutest boys and rarely show any real aggression to each other save for the occasional gentle nip.
I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Pic for fun 😊

Sounds like Reggie is dominant given be rumbles etc. Max squealing to Reggie sounds like submission squealing which is what a submissive piggy will do to tell the dominant they know they are the dominant.

How they travel, nervousness etc is not a sign of dominance, it’s just their character.
I once had a piggy who was terrified of being handled, would run away first at any sudden sound, held back when I approached, took a year and a half to settle in and take food from me etc but he was the dominant in the pairing. The submissive was the first to the door, took food from me, spoke more, was just much more confident all round.
