Am going to give our Piggy some Infant Calpol for pain relief. There however are 2 types available in Chemist - a Paracetamol based one and a Ibruprofen based one?

Am I correct in thinking the Paracetamol based Calpol is the correct one to give?

Thanks

I gave mine childrens nurofen strawberry flavour for when mine had a sore mouth. Wht is wrong with your pig?

Using it for Post Dental pain (hopefully)

Pitch hasn't been eating since her dental one week ago. The vet is erring on the side of suggesting Euthanasia as this is the 3rd dental in as many months. This to me is not an option, I want to try and give her the chance of eating again, as at the moment she is still happy but reliant on Syringe feeding, I'm hoping a week of pain relief may pick her up, we are using Daktarin Gel also.
She is only eating Gerty and ignores her veggies even Parsley (her favourite)

I believe dossage is 0.2ml twice a day, is that correct?

I am going to the vet again monday to ask about getting some Metacam, but until then I wanted to try and give a little pain relief if possible and have seen Calpol mentioned many times on this forum.

Some Dental pigs need there teeth done every 14 days, is your vet using GA? I think perhaps a new vet is in order.

We have tried most of the vets already, all the vets local to us use GA, we don't drive unfortunately and are running out of options....I have found one more vet in Sedgley, that I am going to ring on monday.

She had some parsley 2 days after the dental, but has since not touched Veg apart from one stalk of corriander Thursday and that was it. She normally loves her food.
On all her previous Dentals shes started to eat within 4 days. But me and my wife are trying our best with Critical Care syringe feeding morning and night, unfortunately her weight is still losing at 3g a day. She currently weighs 815g.

I am very concious that by not eating Hay her teeth will grow back quicker and the spur will also, meaning that soon she will start dropping her Gerty. This is stressing us both out as it seems there will only be one outcome... She is so important to us and her sister, I don't know what else we can do...

There is a rodentologist in Midlands, who is very good at teeth without GA. Can you get too the Midlands?

Could you pm me their details, I had the number for one but they where to far away... :(

Thanks for your help

I'm going to step in here

Sport billy..you asked about metacam a few days ago when you had already decided to give your piggie daktarin. You acknowledged my reply

Now you are asking about infant calpol pain relief......I am mightily pleased to assume that you are still determined to try and get your dental piggie to eat and I completely understand and appplaud your concern. I really understand your angst as you want your kid's piggie to start eating soonest.

However......after a dental procedure....sometimes a piggie may not be able to eat without your help for (even) up to 5 months....Shocking, frustrating, heartbreaking for the kids....yes I know..but you need to be aware so you can plan the best course of action to anticipae theworst circumstance. Hopefully it wont be that long as the average is a damn sight less.

That doesn;t mean the piggie should be euthanased (noting your previous posts and your previous vets remarks)

Unfortunately you now have a difficult situation with your dental piggie....and your possiby "not that experienced vet"... that will possibly require more attention and care to resolve than most people have planned for or have available.. It's completely understandable ...and no reflection on you or your family.....you have our compelete sympathy as this must be a terrible situation for you to find yourself in re the kiddies pet.....and all credit to you for seeking assistance on this board..not once but several times

Best advice I can give judging from your situation is this:
Please explore the possibility of an experienced rescue/fosterer/rodentologist helping your piggie to eat again..it is perfectly possible to help your piggie recover..provided you are amenable to asking for/accepting help...and preapred for it to take some time.

Whereabouts are you? once you tell us then hopefully we can point you in the direction of someone (even a short term "dental piggy fosterer") who can help the piggie cost effectively and you will all be in a win/win situation ...and your kids will be happy they will get their lovely piggy back

It's bloomin' tough when you dont; think your vet has the necessary knowledge/experience to help your piggie...but won;t admit it or refer you to someone who can help effectively. A lot of us have been there and completely sympathise with your frustration and powerlessness. The suggestion by your vet to euthanase this early on is really NOT an option and suggests someone who is out of their depth. Piggies (with careful care) have survived a lot worse situations than yours.

C'mon Hun...spill a bit more info..have courage...let's all try to get the best possible result for your piggy

Blommin' well done for persevering this far.....I wish you wre my dad
