I went out to snuggle Team WAC and I noticed William was sat by himself looking sad - his eyes were all gunky, wasn't really making much of a squeak etc.

I thought I heard a popping coming from his chest, but I may just be being paranoid.

I'm whisking him to the vets in a minute.

I'm so worried. 8...8...8...8...8...8...8...8...

Hope William will be okay, fingers crossed for him.

Whisked him down there - but they were chokka - only able to fit him in at 2:40pm 8...

At least he has an appointment.

I've bought all three of them inside again and I am keeping a watchful eye on him.

Awwwww poor William hope hes okay and everything goes well :) xxxxx

GET WHEEEEEEEKY WELL WILLIAM XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Whee will have all paws, claws and fingers crossed for dear William xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
HUGS for you love i know how worried you'll be xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thank you all - this afternoon has been one of the longest in the world!

Just waiting and waiting and well waiting.

I've syringed him some water (he wasn't drinking :( ) and he's munched on some cucumber - so he's eating, just not drinking.

His poor eyes are so watery and crusty 8...8...8...

Only another hour to wait....! rolleyes

Good luck to William. Its maybe just an an allergy to dust. Let us know how you get on...

So I took him to the vets and I did not like her!

It was not the usual man we have who is so piggy savy but a woman who treated it like a military drill. She was still piggy savy, but not very kind.

Turns out William's teeth are fine, his chest is fine as is the rest of him. She even went 'Are you sure he's feeling poorly?!' as he ran away from the thermometer! - I guess he just knew where it was going :)):))

She has prescribed some precautionary antibiotics, for a chest infection (as his eyes were weepy). So hopefully a course of these and he will be ok!

They're all staying inside now - the only question I have now is: Do I split them up, until William gets better? Or do I keep them together?

If I split them up William sulks big style and Alan & Clive squeak and squeak and squeak until they are all reuinted.

I would appreciate opinions etc. Thanks :)

Bactiryl was prescribed.

(That's probably not spelt right!)

Is it Baytril? If so, did the vet give you probiotic to administer with the antibiotic? Baytril can sometimes cause a runny tummy and the probiotic helps to stabilise the gut. Sending get well wheeks to William. Come on lovely boy, get better soon.....

Baytril - that's the one! I'm so rubbish with names of things!

No she didn't I didn't think of that :o:o I'm a terrible guinea mummy 8...

What would a good probiotic be to give to him with his medicine?

aww poor william, I really hope its something of nothing and that this course of baytril does the trick. How scary for you

Aww poor William. Hope he's better soon.

Definitely, give him probiotics as Baytril can be very harsh on a piggie's tummy. Bio Lapis or Pro-C (I think it's called) from Vetark are good. You may also want to have some Critical Care to hand, just in case he goes off his food.

Also, when syringing him water, be very careful not to aspirate him. Only give him a little bit at a time.

As for separating, I personally wouldn't. It may upset him further and also upset the balance of the relationship. Others may disagree with this though.

It was only through this forum that I learned that its best to give a pro biotic when administering baytril. I think you give the probiotic 2 hours after the anti biotic, hopefully someone can clarify this. Its best to have this, just in case your piggies tummy gets upset. Even although I have kept piggies for ten years, I still learn new things all the time. :)

I could only get him to take a little at a time - swaddling him and holding him = a little head poking out with arms that kept escaping which would move the syringe :)):))

I was worried about the balance of the relationship - they've only been together just under a week, but the bond they have and the balance is incredible! They all know where they stand! :)):))

Hope William feels better soon. Thanks for the update on him. This place is amazing for learning new things on piggies, I'd be lost without it.

Aw, poor little man :(
If it wasn't for this forum as others have said, I would not have known how to do critical care, give probiotics etc. and would have lost a poorly piggy a couple of weeks ago.
Healing vibes to little William from us all here x>>

William is doing much better now - he did lose some weight, but he's promptly putting all the weight back on through his appetite coming back verrrrrry quickly!

Here he is swaddled up ready for his antibiotics. Only 2 more days of the hideous tasting stuff left!
