I wondered if anyone else has ever noticed white liquid coming from a guinea pigs eyes? It only happens when my g.pig is straining to reach the back of himself to clean himself. His eyes are otherwise fine , not sticky or runny and don't seem to bother him at all but when he strains to clean himself or strains to get out of the bath his eyes sort of stretch and a white liquid comes out of the corners. Anyone else ever had this? I'm confused as to what it is. Hope someone on here can help

Thank you so much for that I was getting concerned but didn't want to drag them to a vet in this heat if not necessary. That's really put my mind at rest thanks. I'm learning all the time on here!

The cleaning fluid does seem to be more obvious in some than other piggies - one of mine seems to have a lot and we see it regularly in the corners of his eyes, in others it is hardly noticeable.

It's normal cleaning fluid; guinea pigs don't clear their eyes by blinking. If you see watery fluid in the eyes, you know that there is some irritation/pain/injury in the eye.

Guinea pig body quirks

Thankyou for the body quirks thread. Found it really useful. The more I can learn about my guinea pigs the better I can care for them so thank you for your help

I have written the "quirks" specifically to help new owners learn what is normal and what is not. ;)

We have got lots more information at the top of our various Care sections, but here is our guide collection for new owners which comprises answers for the most often asked questions from new owners with some important need to know information that most owners are not necessarily aware of, but that can save them a lot of problems down the line.

Because of the huge changes over the last few years, any books are outdated. It is easier for us to provide the information in this form, as it means that we can integrate new knowlwedge and recommendations whenever necessary. ;)
