My cavy Gunnu (female, age - 4 years 4 months) is having the following symptoms -

1) White/colorless fluid coming out of her genitals/anal region (I am not able to make out which). Sometimes the fluid is brownish - it may be due to mixing with the faeces.
2) I found blood on the clothes today and also some blood near her genital/anal region
3) Weight loss - I am not sure about the exact figure but the weight loss is a clearly visible change.
4) She has been passing gas for some time now (around 1 month). It is pretty frequent (many times a day) and has very foul odour.
Because of the gas we have cut down on her greens a little. We have been feeding her more grass/hay. Pellets are not available in our region so we haven't been able to provide her with that for quite some time now. We don't have any vets in the region either. I am banking on you guys for urgent help.

I am really worried since I discovered the blood today. Please advise me.

She needs to see a vet ASAP to get all this looked at. Blood from the gential area can be from a number of causes, some treatable with Antibiotics but others a little more serious, so please get her checked over. Please let us know how she gets on, hope all goes okay.

Several of those symptoms are concerning - weight loss and blood, in particular. Please take her to see a vet today. Piggies are prey animals and hide any signs of illness for as long as they can. When symptoms become visible they need checking out asap.

You will find a vet locator tab at the top of the page - this will provide you with a list of vets recommended by our members.

Fingers firmly crossed for a speedy recovery x

Hi! Definitely time for a vet trip as soon as possible, ideally today! Weight loss is a surefire sign that a piggy has a major problem, and so is bleeding. Both signs need to be investigated and acted upon immediately. There are a number of issues that can cause these symptoms, so we cannot give you a diagnosis over the internet, but most treatments will involve an antibiotic. the quicker she is getting treatment, the better the chances for a good recovery.

Please weigh your girl daily to monitor the food intake until she is well again, then weekly as recommended for healthy piggies.

Which country are you in? We have got a piggy savvy vet locator for the UK: http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/pages/guinea-pig-vet-locator/

Sorry to hear she isn't well. Even if you don't have a piggy vet in your region, could you take her to a general vet? Not best choice, but a regular vet is better than no vet, and at the very least they could prescribe antibiotics. Good luck.
