Wonder if anyone can help, when I got my piggies from the rescue the lady told me the youngest could not go in the sun at all as she is white with pink eyes,my dopey husband mowed the grass yesterday and had mown most of it before I had the chance to leave a patch for the girls :(the only place not done has no shade was just wondering ifyou think it would be okay to put her out there in the early morning when the sun is not so hot

Hmm... not too sure... i worrk about Wilson and Cindy getting too hot because cCindy is dark and Wilson has black on him...
I never knew white pigs couldnt go in the sun ?

Great question! :)

All pigs can go out, they just need some cover/shade and if it's exceptionally hot some frozen water bottles/cold slabs/plant pots to lay on/in/against :)

The are like us and need the sun for calcium and vit d synthesisation(sp?)

We have/ are just dicussing this on another thread. For some reason white guineas don't like being in the sun. White animals also commonly get sunburn. What you could do is put them where you want them and cover the run so it is shaded. O0

Aah yer they would get sunburn hey... coz they have fair skin :) lol

Thanks very much for your quich replies, will make sure Miss Sweetie has something to give her shade, :)
Another silly question I have read that white cats and dogs should have sunsrceen applied to their ears in the Summer, should I do this for Miss Sweetie

I haven't but my cats, yes, cos they are out in the sun more. :)

It is true that white cats and dogs should have suncream applied on there ears and in a few other places, but providing your guinea stays in the shade you won't need to. I wouldn't advise you to, keep her in the shade. O0

I personally haven't and wouldn't do it for a few reason, including natural oils, allergic reactions and the other guineas lick it off. The only guineas I would apply sun cream on is Skinnies and Baldwins, which shouldn't even be out in the sun. :)

I understood it was fine to do. Dr loved the sun so much but had lacy delicate ears. He had it. :)

Mine go out in the runs in the sun - I just make sure half the run is covered so there is plenty of shade and cool water - and then if they want they can get out of the sun ;)

Thanks everyone for your replies, given the girls some shade in their run,so they are outside now having some fun :)
