We got our guinea pigs a few weeks ago. The white one seems to have yellow wee stains on her fur around her bottom. Is this normal? And will she clean it herself?
She is still very timid and jumpy, and I'm not sure if I can handle her enough to wash it yet. I dont want to completely scare her while she is still getting used to us, but feel terrible just leaving it!
Any tips on what to do would be much appreciated thank you!

Does she have long hair?

This is more common with long haired piggies. My light coloured Abis often have wee coloured stains showing. Even bathing doesn't always get rid of them though.

I'm glad its not just mine! Do you know if it will cause any problems if left? (Irritate skin etc) I'm trying way up the pros and cons between leaving her dirty, or scaring the life out of her to clean it!

I suppose with dark piggies it's still there but you can't see it. When I give mine their weekly health check I give them a gentle clean round their back end with a baby wipe. You could also clip any stained hair with round pointed baby scissors. I don't think anything else is necessary.

My Sophie has this and she is white, we give her bum baths every few weeks. Hers was worse originally as she was an undiagnosed heart pig and was sitting about in her wee. Now she is on meds she is not sitting so much.

If she is long haired you could cut her hair around her bum. It can get sore if she sits in wee for ages, but this is usually if a pig is poorly so not moving about. Bepanthen is a good barrier cream if that ever happens.

i just bathed my white and grey peruvian and my ginger and brown sheltie and the colour of the water was not pleasant. Clipped ten lots of piggie nails as well , wouldnt reccomend it in this weather, i need a bath now and am exhausted (most of them dont like being picked up and in 5x3 and 5x4 c&c cages so took some catching
