Hi,

I have a skinny pig, she is approximately 7 months old, she has a new white patch on her ear and I am reading it could be a fungal infection? What lotion or oil is recommended? Or should I take her to the vet?

i would get your piggie to a piggie savvy vet if possible. There is a vet locater in the top bar. there is one form of fungal infection called ringworm that can be passed onto humans and other animals.that is why i would suggest it is best that a vet confirms what the white patch is.I hope your piggie gets better soon.:wel: to the forum, they are a friendly bunch here.please can i suggest you put your location next to your avatar ,so any advice given can be taliored to your needs.as members are from all corners of the globe.this forum is based in the UK.:)

If you think it's fungal you can clean the spot with a cotton ball and a little hydrogen peroxide, it helps to lyse fungal spores

I would get her checked by a vet but it could be fungal. You do need a proper diagnosis though. The most gentle fungal treatment is Imaverol which is used as a dip but can also be used as a topical application. It is gentle enough to use on baby pigs and I have used it on my skinnies. The vet should be able to prescribe it or you can buy online if not.

Not all types of fungal will come up as positive in any test the vet does, only Ringworm tends to but there are many other types.
