white patch on ear.

Hi there.
One of my baby boys has developed a large white patch on his ear (his ears are black). Just wondered if this was anything to be concerned about.
His brother has a bald patch on his side, which he had when we got him from the rescue. The hair is starting to re-grow, but there is a scabbly area now that wasn't there when we got him (only had them 2 weeks). Could the 2 be related? I did wonder if Bolt had mites that were causing the bald patch,as he does scratch a little.
I am going to book them both into the vets for a checkup, but wondered if anyone here had any ideas.
 
It does sound like mites are a possibility, fungal perhaps for the ear. Worth having the vet treat them for mites (with ivermectin), 2-3 doses around ten days apart and bath them with an anti-fungal shampoo either between ivermectin doses, or at the end of the mites treatment. :)
 
Thanks, they are booked into vets tomorrow for a check-up.
Having to bathe piggies sounds scarey, mine are only just getting used to being handled. Is it as difficult as it sounds?!
 
It can be a scary experience. If you are lucky, they freeze, if you are unlucky, they freak out.

I found that with 9 piggies to bathe in one go, I just get on. Most of them I shampoo and rinse under the tap while holding on my arm, as they are happiest on there. We do not have a bath tub, so I have to use the kitchen sink. I also found that they are less agitated when I do them in groups and their friends are nearby. I only wear a t-shirt with no underwear as I end up completely soaked and in need of a shower myself afterwards! Make sure that no piggy can fall on the ground if he decides to sudeenly jump out of your hands/from your arm.

My baby pig froze when I bathed her for the 1st time today. So guess I was lucky and I hope it stays that way for the next however many baths she has to have . . .

Hope it goes OK at the vets. At least you'll know that little piggy will be porperly diagnosed and get the treatment needed.
