Hi, I haven't been here for a while (I'm just one of those people that only
appear when I want something!:)))
Crystal has developed a strange white scabby patch on her nose, I have a
feeling that its making her feel a little poorly too, though she's eating fine
& still podgy as ever. She was making slight muttering sounds today,
I thought it was her friend bumbling about, but realised it was Crystal while she was resting.
Either this scab is painful or its affecting something else.
My first thought was cheilitis but it doesnt look like the pictures I've seen,
wrong colour & its not one big scab, its more like lots of little spikey white scabs.
She's going to the vet tomorrow, but he's a stand in vet & I thought any
ideas I could throw in may be helpful as I'm not sure how good he is.
Any suggestion?

For the record, it turned out to be a wart virus, apparently not uncommon & nothing to worry about. However, it turns out she also has cystic overies & will need an operation when the regular vet is back, poor little piggy.

oh poor crystal! Hope the operation goes well and she makes a full and speedy recovery

poor girl at least you know what it is now though

Do you have a picture of her nose for reference?:)
Sorry to hear she needs an op, I think ovarian cysts can be treated with hormone injection and draining. You could get in touch with Laura at guinea pig helpline who will be able to advise or the CCT if you would like an alternative to surgery x

I tried to take a picture of her nose, but as she has white fur there it didnt really show up, If I manage to get one I'll post it. The nurse recommended extra vitamin c & said it's a pox/viral thing.
As for the cysts, the vet was a stand in & didnt seem too confident with
guinea pigs, he thinks we should wait for the regular vet to return to decide about treatment, as its not urgent. I'm happy with that, but I'm
not sure what I'll do if the cysts suddenly swell & need more urgent treatment. I've used the cct, (but havent joined this year) but find it very
hard to contact Vedra in emergencys as she's so busy.
Fingers crossed Crystal'll be ok for a few more weeks.
