Hello everyone, i have my guinea pigs for 2 months and i love them so much! I am really trying my best to take care of them however, yesterday i saw white tiny thing lice?) on my girl's fur. it was moving and it was really tiny.

I am from Turkey and there is no such good shampoo for guinea pigs:( i will go to the vet this weekend but can i treat them just with bathing them? or what should i do after the vet app? and why these things appear? i was always looking their furs but never saw these things before.

Hi! It sounds like lice. Skin parasites can come with hay or just appear; they are a fact of life with any furry animals. Skin parasites are species specific, so you can't catch them from your guinea pigs.
The best way to treat them is a product that contains ivermectin (UK brand: xeno) or selamectin (US brand: revolution/UK brand: stronghold) as active ingredients.

You may find this US based link helpful; you may need to look for suitable products online.

Gorgeous guineas ship worldwide; their shampoo may work as a supplement to the ivermectin/selamectin. Please always wait 48 hours between any treatments on the skin to allow the previous application to be fully absorbed by the skin and work optimally.

I've personally purchased Advantage from Edirne not too long ago, so you can surely use that and it's very effective against lice :) It's also cheaper than anywhere in the EU, so you're in luck. Your vet will calculate the appropriate dose in accordance with the piggy weight.

Good luck!

There is a warning against Advantage out on the Guinea Lynx link (see my first post) because it contains a pesticide harmful to guinea pigs, especially young ones. Advantage Multi doesn't contain this pesticide; this is why I haven't listed Advantage in my own post.

The Advantage sold in Turkey (also Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia and, I suppose, the other Balkan countries) contains only imidacloprid. I haven't followed any reformulations in the other countries though, it may be the case that in the US and UK it contains additional ingredients that are unsafe for piggies. Unfortunately, in my personal experience, Bayer aren't at all consistent in branding their products, so my advice only pertains to the Advantage marketed locally. In contrast, the Advantage Multi that's sold around here is formulated with synthetic pyrethrins and is unsafe for pigs :( It can be very confusing, especially for new owners.
