Do you use fleece?

Nope don't have the time for that.....I clean every two days at least, sometimes slips to three days but that's maximum.

Yes, the piggies poop and wee a lot. They are continuously grazing, hence the deposits. I clean my hutches and within a couple of hours they looks the same as before the clean....I spotclean the poop areas and that's it.

But if you got the time.....good on you!

I clean my hutch out once a week but spot clean as and when is needed which is usually every other day.

we're the same as you Claire, it always looks nice after a full clean out

we use shavings, and hay

N x

snap we do ours once a week and at the minute use woodshaving and hay but was thinkin of vet bedding but I'm not totally convinced yet

Yes, I use shavings and hay too with a layer of newspaper underneath. It always smells really nice too after a full clean. I'm going to clean mine out in a minute. The girls are already in their run ready and waiting

I clean mine about once a week, maybe sometimes I slip a bit and it goes one or two days over. I spot clean when I need to, like getting rid of old veggies/hay about once a day, or every other day. Mine are on sawdust and hay, and have pretty big cages so it doesn't ever get too dirty. Mine get so excited after i've completely cleaned them out, they start popcorning all over the place :smitten:

I change Spikes bedding twice a week and he gets a full-on clean once a week.

wow i change it 2-3 times a day.... before school, after school and sometimes during the night if needed. I am very committed to my piggies hygiene right now because of these mites. i use newspaper and at night time i put paper shreddings in. they make a mess....

2/3 times a day :o

I'm committed to my piggies as well but do think 2/3 times a day is a bit ott. When I use to use vetbed it was every other day but now use megazorb and hay and do it once a week. It is still bone dry but I do poo pick everyday. Bet it's costing you a fortune to clean them out that often!

When I used shavings I cleaned the cage every second or third day, now with fleece I clean it every day - but once a day is enough!

I wouldnt have the time to do it 3 times a day ? Besides, the piggies dont seem to mind the poo, as they always poop in their favourite cuddly houses and then sit in them! If they minded them they would have a seperate poop corner (like rabbits do).

ROFL Si! :D My mother has that! Never known anyone to be so obsessed with cleaning!

I clean every other day full clean! No point cleaning poop up with my lot I used to but it was a waste of time. Pearl does use a toilet though, she's very clean! She was pooping in the food bowl so I put one in the corner and has used it ever since! Very clever girl! :smitten:

lol ok. i'm not allowed to use hay or shavings. i just use newspaper. it's cheap....

What do you use as bedding for them then? Do you give them hay for eatting?

I usually clean mine out every 3 days - they have a layer of newspaper, megazorb and then hay on the top.

I also use a layer of newspaper (my husband made the hutches to fit our local evening newspaper, bless him! :-*), then top it with wood shavings in both the bedroom area and the "lounge" area ;D. I then put a layer of soft hay in the bedroom.

I reckon I do a full clean out every 2 - 3 days, depending what it is like. I spot-clean the poo corners every day and remove wet shavings each day, especially under the water bottles, and add more shavings.

I love it when they are all clean but hey, it doesn't take them long to mess it up, does it?! ::) ;D
Just off out there to tidy them up now and give them their tea xx

Because I haven't got guinea pigs can i say about Jack?

Hes on newspaper and in his litter tray is wood pellets. I clean his cage out everyday because hes in the process of being litter trained.

do you have OCD? ;)

Is that comment meant to be a joke? or is it as harsh and unnecessary as it reads to me?

There are pages and pages written on the care of guinea pigs and I have yet to find a book that says it is not necessary to keep the GPs living quarters clean. Apart from the fact that cleanliness and hygiene will limit illness and disease, an unkempt habitat will make for a very depressed animal.

I think it was meant to be a joke. Calm down ;)

Of course a piggies cage should be kept clean, everybody here is aware of that, and nobody disagrees with this. But you can take it to an extreme, like everything. And cleaning a cage four times a day seems - to alot of people - like a person who hoovers their frontroom twice a day, every day. It does seem a bit obsessive! ;D

I agree with you Abnoba. It does seem a little obsessive. Everyone on here wants to do whats best for their guinea pigs. Like i have already said, I clean mine out fully once a weeks and spot clean every other day. This suits with them, but if I noticed their hutch to be really dirty before the week is up. I wouldn't hesitate to clean them out there and then :)

fear not the wink should show i was jesting in that sense but i think cleaning more than once a day is a waste of time & would be better spent entertaining pigs not getting them a Michel Jackson stylee immaculate oxygen tent.
