I'm struggling at the moment :( I collected my foster piggie Jack last week and already getting way too attatched .. I can't keep him I know that but I'm already finding it hard..
How do you foster parents cope ?

Hi Karen,

It is tough when they first go at first. I did have a weep when Choccy and Jasper went because I was so attached especially to Jasper (Peter was attached to Choccy.) I now have Ant and Dec and and they are lovely, if they don't find a home then they will of course stay here but I keep trying for them. Because the more I keep the less I can foster.

And thats what I have to keep telling myself. But look at Radley, I just couldn't rehome him and bonding him with Sunshine is going ok. I was taken with him before I got him! ::)

I have no idea how piggy foster mums do it. I was fostering Chaz and Dave for Helen (Hels) since just before Christmas. It was only supposed to be until it got warmer and they could go outside but was recently considering sening them back to the rescue and just couldn't do it. The thought of them possibly sitting in rescue for months because they're boys and over a year old was horrible and I coudn't do it, not to mention how much I'd miss them. So, they now have a forever home with me. Bf has told me that fostering in future might not be a good idea as I might end up with millions of pigs. Oops! Don't think I'm cut out for fostering, have loads of respect for those who can and do. :)

mmmmmmmm 'foster' mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
first came Francis and Teddy and Sage and Woodruff Woodruff was the only one to go back (he's happy with a girlie he is neutered!)
Then came Shima and Mille Vikki understands that if she comes to 'collect' she'll be racing the dogs! ;D ;D ;D
Morgan and Morgause and bubs have the same 'agreement' ;D ;D ;D
I did 'foster' Ginger and Mr Squeaky But they are at my best friends house and i get free access to them when i visit ::)
fostering iss hard and letting go is really hard but as long as they go to good homes i don't mind BUT i get the last call on who goes where!!
ok for fostering read MINE! MINE! MINE!

I think if i fostered i'd end up with millions of piggie too i'd not be able to say no to those sweet little faces :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
I totally admire you all for your huge efforts :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

LOL Ron you're just a gonner as soon as you see a furbaby :smitten: ;D ;D ;D you big softie :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Started fostering for the RSPCA last October got Murphy had to tell them id keep him the thought of some one coming to get him that would not spoil him like we do was awful so i had to keep him. :smitten:

Just looking at Murphy now crashed out in his fluffy bed after his breakfast tells me we did the right thing, for him to be outside down the bottom of someones garden would be hell for him he is so spoilt and rules the roost here :smitten:

Thankfully not many Guinea Pigs are handed in or need rescuing here by the RSPCA so i have not had anymore since. I dont think i could ever let one go unless i knew they would be adored as much as they are here.

Oh Ron, that made me laugh!

I fostered 3 young boars who came from the auction for Vikki - cute little pigs, until they were old enough / large enough to be homed (they were TINY!). These have become a pair and the 3rd was then bonded with another baby boar at Vikki's, and have either got homes or been reserved - which is great! It was hard to let them go but when they came in I knew it was only temporarily and what with all my other pigs and recent babies, it was easier because I knew I would need the space shortly! I'm just pleased that they've found homes.

Moose, my other foster pig from Vikki - to be honest, he's old and gets impacted and seems to have a bit of an issue with his sight, and no-one had shown any interest in him, so if no-one wanted him he would have lived out his days here quite happily. But then someone came along with experience of older boars, and a lovely home - so it is in Moose's best interests and although I will definitely miss him, it would be selfish to keep him here when such a lovely home awaits. But I do admit to a tear or two! He's such a super boy.

I think it depends how many pigs of your own you've got - I've already got a lot and am aware how much attention they all need, and am trying not to take on more than I can cope with. If I only had one or two of my own, all of the above pigs would have been in danger of becoming permanent residents because you can't help but get attached to the little fellas!

Thanks all for the replies :) I'm a failed foster mummy 3 times over already ::) one was a rabbit I was fostering and two foster piggies.
I'd love to keep Jack but with already 10 animals I really would like him to go to someone who has more time.

I've started fostering for our local RSPCA and I'm lucky to have a level headed OH. If I had my way I would keep every animal that came through my front door but thankfully he keeps me grounded!

We've actually been discussing your little Jack this morning as we are in Wrexham next Friday!

now that i have my lovely piggies and am very happy with them I'd love to foster piggies. After we build our house for our piggies we will have room for 4 cages so seriously cinsidering giving the fostering a go. My OH is very level headed and makes me realise I cant have everything i think is cute. We live in a flat at the moment and if i kept every dog, rabbit, cat etc thats i said was cute he wouldn't be living with us. haha. Also i love rex's and have 4 and two lovely boys, i think if it was a rex i was fostering i'd find it hard to say bye, if it was for those who fostered just think where the piggies would be! xxxxxx

Oh my god I love this little fella :smitten: I have 4 piggies and adore them but this guy is special :smitten:.. He's so funny ;D ;D we've been in stitches tonight he's so much fun ;D

I started crying last night :'( after 3 glasses of wine :embarassed: I can't imagine him leaving me but I do know I can't keep him :'( he's going to make someone a wonderful piggie :)

Karen have you had any luck in rehoming Jack yet?
We're in Wrexham this Friday!
