My neighbour came round today. She is piggy experienced and is going to see to my 3 this weekend. Now I've left them in hubby's care for a few nights before but we've not all gone anywhere together since covid happened and that's quite a while. So I took her through to the kitchen and all of the pigs had vanished! They usually putter around despite 4 big people bumbling about so I was a bit surprised. I was showing the syringe to demonstrate how much metacam to give George when Flora suddenly made a break for it and shot like a blur from the front cage into the back cage as far away as she could get. A second later Louise tried to do the same although trying to bolt when you're a ball of fluff is not easy, so scaredy-pig George was able to tailgate her and cram in behind both the ladies causing wheeks of protest (what a gent) It was a new voice in the house and they were wary!

"Just offer the syringe... he'll have your hand off... he loves it" I'm saying but there no takers for the proffered syringe and I look like a big fat liar. "Come on Georgie..." but Georgie doesn't come on. "Do I have to catch him first!" laughed my piggy-sitter and I was a bit embarrassed... and not only that but when I delve in to extract George (to show which one he was) he clocked his sitter and froze solid! "Honestly, he's so easy to dose..." and in goes the syringe with no resistance - plunger depressed - all the metacam runs straight out of his mouth which is hanging open and all I could think of was that George might be better being Home Alone!

But my sitter saw the funny side and is still prepared to give it a shot and if he doesn't get all his metacam for a couple of days it's not a disaster. I thought it was bad when the kids embarrass you but when it's the guinea-pigs that's a whole new level! 😅

Oh dear! I expect they'll settle down once they realise food arrives when your neighbour does. My boss and his wife (I worked in his home) had a cat who used to ignore me completely when I went there to work. Every year they went to Austrailia to visit family for 6 weeks, for those weeks that cat loved me. He would sit on my desk and head but me as I tried to work, came running to me when I opened the door. Didn't take him long to work out I could use a tin opener!

Got back tonight. Everyone hiding. Really interesting to see where they've been pooping - 48 hours in an empty house you might think they'd be in the open area even more than usual but looks like mostly hiding away! Girls came out - a little sniffing to make sure it's me - and started munching. Timid George (who had been medicated, but had had to be extracted before he took the syringe) was hiding in the back. He had a little cuddle but he didn't want his teeth checked. It looks like he's been shredding newspaper which for him is a sign of discomfort or stress. He had quite a hard plug in the back end but luckily no bigger than usual so I guess it could be either. Gave him a heat pad, fresh hay and a small bit of cucumber... he gave me a sudden hard bite and turned away! Love hurts sometimes x

They're talking to each other now so back to normal I reckon.
