Our very first pig was a lovely tri coloured crested fella called Felix.

I cringe now to think I kept him on his own (though it was only for 3 weeks) then I got him some company, a little longhaired fella called Badger.

They were such sweethearts, very laid back, the children absolutely adored them. My boys used to make them obstacle courses in the hall and the piggies would whizz round through tunnels, under bridges - having a great time. Sadly Badger died when he was quite young but Felix lived until he was about 8. My middle son sobbed and sobbed for days when Felix died, bless him.

It's more years ago now than I care to mention and of course we hadn't even heard of the www or even had a computer then. rolleyes (and yes I even kept them on sawdust :red)

They certainly made an impression on me though did Felix and Badger, I've been hooked ever since.

I would love to know about other people's first piggies.

I think you know ours Louise, as one of them passed away very suddenly whilst we were talking about possibly adopting two of yours - Scampy and Blaze, both black and white Dutch marked boars.

Scampy with his little pink ear and Blaze with his little black paw, son and father respectively, were adoptees from GBH Rescue here in Kent, sadly both died fairly young, we never did find out why. Blaze was bold, fearless, handsome and unflappable, whilst Scampy was affectionate, playful and sweet. We were absolutely distraught for ages after we lost Scampy so suddenly, and when Blaze followed his son to the Bridge just a couple of months later, we were devasted that we were doing something wrong, despite our best intentions.

But they were around long enough for us to fall utterly in love with them and piggie kind, and we will always remember them and each and every pig that comes our way :)

My first piggy was a ginger & white boy called Pippin x) I too kept him on his own & on shavings. I got a nethie bunny & paired them together, big mistake, they were only together one night when i discovered the next morning that Pippin had been macheted by Bruno bunny, thankfully his wounds healed but never again did i have a piggy living with a bunny :(
I then got a peruvian called Merlin, he lived next door to Pippin but sadly passed away a few months later.

Pippin then lived with Molly, whom at first was thought to be a boy but was a girl, i kept them together as i thought it'd be marvellous for them to have babies mallethead They had 2 boys, 2 girls, Pippin was neutered & lived very happily with Molly, Poppy & Pansy (their daughters) the boys went to live with my then next-door neighbours son.

Pippin & Molly whom i've just realised bears an uncanny resemblance to Maddie

My first piggie I got for my 8th birthday, she was a mis-marked red dutch called Toffee. She came to live wih my rabbit :red Mopsey after Flopsey died, a year or so later Mopsey died and we got a tri-colour rescue piggie called Sugar and after that Toffee was a different pig -so much more happy and vocal! Then followed Fudge a cream and white that I fell in love with in a pet shop. Me and my friend then decided to introduce Fudge and his pig Sonny and 5 babies followed (I know its wrong now but I was 10) they were Polo, Rolo, Honey, Sherbert and Cocoa, we kept Cocoa. All 4 piggies lived happily together untill they passed away and the last one left was Fudge and as she was lonely we got a old rescue called Porky who was a longhaired Black and Ginger pig, a while later Fudge died and Porky followed about 6 months later. Then I had a bit of a gap from piggies till I saw Gerty and had to buy him!x) Morgan was then given away by a friend and although ive had problems with unplanned babies (Star, Pop, Kenickie, Binky, Dot and Dash, who all now have lovely homes) the two are now living very happily together and when I finnish uni and have my own place I hope to add some more girlies to the group! (I love big groups!)

Thats all my piggies sories not just the first but couldn't leave them all out!

My first piggie my dad bought for me when I was about eight. He was a ginger coloured abyssinian and I called him Rusty. He won first prize in my schools "best pets" competition and I absolutely adored him. Then I got two females, one a smooth coat and the other another abyssinian. I kept them in seperate cages too back then :red but allowed them to run about together, which resulted in babies rolleyes. I was fasinated as a child to see them born looking like minitures of their parents. My next door neighbour took all the babies so I still got to see them everyday :)

Columbia and Magenta

I got my first two piggies when we bought our own house. Columbia was head piggie, very vocal and cuddly, tricolour. Magenta was a nervous brown darling who used to follow Columbia around the conservatory squeaking as she went, we nicknamed her squeaky boots as she squeaked every time she took a step! My piggies have always had the whole conservatory to play in with an open cage door.

I spent ages sitting on the floor in there with them and gaining their trust - as we have added extra babies to the herd they have followed the older piggies lead and now I get mobbed for food and attention by our four instead of them heading for cover which is really great. It has taken years!

I still can't listen to Beethoven's Pastoral symphony without weeping for my beautiful Columbia who died from cancer in my arms and gorgeous Magenta who died peacefully overnight from a tooth problem. Now piggies are a major part of my life and I love them all very much.

My first pigs were Sunshine, Twinkle and Cuzzy! And all pet shop pigs! Didn't know there were rescues at the time. Well, I did with Cuzzy but he melted my heart and I couldn't say no really! Sunshine is a Golden Agouti Aby X, Twinkle a Abyruvian and Cuzzy was a Sheltie he passed away in October 2007 aged only 6 months.

I didn't have pigs as a child was never allowed! I wouldn't be without them now! ^)

my first pigs were when i was a very little girl. I do believe they were Sable, Bassett and Liquorice.

my first pigs were when i was very young, but my first 2 as an adult in my own house were Gemma and Charlotte(names by my daughter) Gemma was a dutch and Charlotte was a black one. They both lived long and happy lives but have now sadly passed over the bridge.

My first piggies were Pheobe (a golden agouti abby) and Ruby (a lilac and golden ridgeback) who i've been owned by for almost a year! i was never allowed them as a child, but i'm making up for it now and have 5! x

My first two were brothers (from a pet shop...:x) when I was about 10 or 11. I'd had hamsters before but then for some reason my parents gave way and I was allowed pigs...

I feel awful now as I know although they were cared for well (my mum did most of the hard work), I didn't give them my full attention like I do to my boys now.

Anyhow, here they are: Candy and Chocolate. Candy developed a tumour and he died quite young (I remember the day my mum met me from school and told me he wasn't coming home...I cried and cried). Chocolate (naively) lived on his own for the rest of his time here. In the end he had to be pts too. Such a sad ending, but also so many happy memories!

they're lovely,which is which?

To be honest I have had too many guinea pigs lol i can't remember which order I had them in. I have kept piggies since i was 7. I think it must've been one called Piggy. But can't remember which one i had after that lol

Lennie was my first pig, he was a lone boar living in squalor. Age unknown, he was unloved and even less cared for grrrr He came home with me but I couldn't pair him with aother boar for any length of time so we were best pals. He took a long while to trust me but what a character x)

He passed away last November from pnuemonia and it broke my heart :(

I thought about those names when I was naming at first! I think we were both on the same theme!

My first three were Riff Raff (see above!), Scarby and Dr Atkins. I had been very poorly for some time and was in a very dark place. The doctors I worked with had given me some Xmas money, and I used that to get my three darlings, their hutch and all their gear.

Dr left me after only fourteen months. Scarby left me a year later. Riff now lives with Rocky.

Those first three changed my life in ways I can't describe. They saved me from myself. I can't ever thank my guineas enough for their love, friendship, trust and humour.

Ours were Rosie and Jim, about 18 years ago. Yes, the names were based on the kid's programme of the Rosie and Jim on a narrowboat or barge.

I didn't know it was a Rosie and Jim at first, as I thought I had two boars but no they weren't. They were called Ross and Jim at first, until Ross's change of sex! :)) I had no idea how to sex piggies then and took the pet shops opinion that I had two boars.

As they say, the rest is history! :)

My first piggy was a ginger abby called Rusty also! He looks alot like your Rusty did - if that's Rusty's photo that you're using.

He didn't ever win any prizes but I also absolutely adored him. I was 11 years old and he was the first of many piggies.

After piggy sitting a friends two piggies I decided i wanted some of my own. After no luck at the RSPCA i got my first two girls in August 2007 from a colleague of a friend, my friends daughter adopted Trinny and Susannahs other two sisters who are named Beyonce and Christina:(|)

Here they are Trinny and Susannah who came to us at six weeks old.

Getting these two little babies and wanting to know lots about them brought me to TGPF.

What a lovely thread!

My first piggy was a ginger and white abby type called Pepsi, I got her in 1987, Sept 17th - I can still remember the date! We didn't know any better and she lived by herself.. which looking back, like many, is sad, but she was such a friendly cheeky pig with twice the character of any I've known since. She followed me round like a dog and came running when called. Later in life I had more piggies and in her old age she lived with Elliot, my sheltie boy. She also used to travel to school with me quite often to visit Pets Club, and had her own travel hutch for holidays. A spoilt piggy indeed! She died in my arms when she was about 6 years old and I was so upset I was off school for a week!

My first pig was Corran. I bought him from a pet shop & no-one told me I had to have more than 1 piggy. :{ he came home & was quite quiet & became withdrawn. A chance phonecall to a friend & she told me I needed at least 1 other pig. ")

So I went back to the same pet shop where I had got Corran from & I was told they wouldn't sell me another boar unless I got Corran neutered as they would fight. So I left & went to another pet shop! I wanted a beautiful pig with rosettes everywhere, but he was sold. Then i saw a handsome little boy who was very similar in colouring to Corran. And so Tycho joined my family! x)

They became the best of friends & lived through the addition & loss of many other boys. Tycho had to have major surgery aged 3 months as he vomited (which they anatomically aren't supposed to do, but I witnessed the event). Tycho was on anti-reflux medication for over 5 years, when he suddenly grew out of the retching. He lived through that & then had a fractured jaw & loss of bone from a fall. He then had to have his teeth trimmed monthly, as his teeth didn't meet. Finally Tycho got a tumour on his boy parts. Corran on the other hand was wonderfully healthy! :))

Corran lived until he was just over 8 years old. Tycho died just before his 7th birthday - pining from his 2.5 year old best friend & not the cancer! 8...

Even now I still feel the sadness & emptyness in my heart but I know they are reunited with each other & all my other boys over the rainbow bridge. :( I am just thankful for the wonderful times I had with them & I know that they were both supposed to come into my life - especially Tycho & all his medical needs! xx>>>

I have loved all my other piggies since then & also the 3 I currently have, Legolas, Pippin & Jerry, & the 2 I am waiting for (2 weeks to go Billy & Bobby, then you can come home!), but there is something so special about your first piggies that can never be replaced! x)

These are lovely stories. Its heartwarming to read them all. I can really get a sense of the love and emotional bond everyone has with their piggies. Such happy memories too. :)

Thanks for all the posts, hope we get some more.

Yes that's Rusty :) When I used to let him out he'd follow me everywhere. *sigh* makes me go all gooey thinking of him.

My first were Phoebe and Felicity, and their mummy, Bev. Sadly Bev passed, but I've still got Phoebe and Fliss, who are now coming up to 5! They started the addiction, I've now got 7 drool

My 1st guinea pig was Ezmo (Ezmeralda), my mum then rescued Max, the biggest hariest guinea pig i have still seen to this day! Awww the memories!

My first were a pair of wonderful agouti boys called Sunny and Moon-Pig! This was April of last year. They're brothers and get on so well, the perfect pairing of boars. Moon-pig is the dominant one (although he's a big softy really), and Sunny is incredibly laid-back and likes to give lots of love and face-kisses! They couldn't be without one another and I love them both to bits. There they are below - Moon is the one with the wonderful white stripe!

Since then we've added another five! No more boars, but five wonderful sows. Three of which live together right next to Sunny and Moon-Pig (Daisy, Rosy and Lily) and two little ones (Milly and Molly) who have their own little cage until we can create a super C+C to hold them all!

But without Sunny and Mooner there would be no other pigs. They're the biggest of our lot by far, and arguably the two with the most character. So thanks to them for all their love, and for showing us just how amazing guinea pigs are!
