someones been giving Corrie a haircut! what does this mean? x

I think what your referring to is barbering which a piggie can do to themselves but more often that not it's one of their cage mates that do it. They basically chew or pluck the hair out. I think there's various reasons why they do it, most are harmless and can sometimes be overenthusiastic grooming, just if the "victim" seems distressed you may have to keep an eye on it

i did notice when she was introduced Eliie had a wee chew of her hair I thought she maybe had something on it :{ Corries a coronet and its the hair on her shoulder area looks as if someones been at it. Is there any way to prevent this ? x

I'm not sure how you would prevent it really. From what I've read it can happen when a guinea pig is initially introduced and may settle down, or it can be down to things like a lack of hay so they will eat their cage mates hair ( this is all what I've read though ).

I don't have a great deal experience of it myself to be honest, some of mine do it, though it's mainly whiskers they go for, and I've even watched them doing it and the majority of the time the "victim" just sits there and lets them so it can't bother them too much.

I think wiebke has a piggie that does this, though whether she knows of a way to stop it I don't know!

they have unlimmited hay and plenty of stimulation so hopefully its a "newbie" thing x

We have a barber in our herd and there is nothing you can do to prevent it.

my coronet Sandy has been sporting an interesting hair cut recently, complete with green tinged highlights! Methinks someone has been barbering after having a mouthful of grass!

One of my pigs chewed Meeko's hair off before, I had run out of hay for a few days, even though they had grass, so they ate his hair!

So the only suggestion I can think of, is to always make sure they have lots of nice hay to eat instead!

Henry did this (to himself!)

His hair was all the length of the bit right at the back near his bum and like the long bit left behind his ear, where he couldn't reach!

I knew it was him doing it because he was housed alone at the time. His hair has grown back well though, I put it down to boredom and he now has two girlfriends to keep him happy :(|)

My owners daughter swears it wasn't her, were we visited in the night by some weird Guinea pig hair dresser? Can anyone help explain?x) Will I ever see my Taylor Swift quiffs again?x>>
