Guinea pigs 2 female, both one year old, very pretty, comes with large cage, children lost interest, Tel: 07039 522 126

Ferrets, two males, 5 months old, one light, one darker in colour, cage can be taken if needed, selling due to kids loss of interest, must go together, Tel: 07039 522 126

Doesn't this make your blood boil. It does mine. They obviously decided that having lost interest in the guinea pigs it would be a good idea to go out and get 2 ferrets. But what a surprise the kids lost interest in them as well. As my subject header says WHY ARE PEOPLE SO STUPID?

I don't understand how you can lose interest in a guinea pig or any animal? :S
 
Sadly children do loose interest, but it should be down to the adults to want to take on these animals. Sunshine was bought for Emily but she doesn't clean him out or feed him that is down to me. If adults are leaving all that sort of thing down to children then they must be cracked in the head! 98)
 
I'm 13 and ive never ever lost interest in the pigs. Then again my parents don't leave it down to me. If i'm not well or if i'm away they will feed them, clean them etc for me.
 
I think they realise that they have to go out into the garden in the cold and wet to feed them and clean them out and if they are indoor piggies after a while the novelty just wears off, and then there is the expense of it gettting the hay etc people just cant be bothered :'(
 
I kept gerils as a child, and I never lost interest! I always wanted more of them, and I spent all my pocket money on them. My family all got involved in te pets though, and me and my mum would hold or play with the gerbils together, so it became something we did as a family. I think thats why i stayed interested.

A pet should be for a whole family, not just one small child. If you buy a pet for your child, the responsibility is yours, not the childs.
 
The children have lost interest and now the parents cant be bothered

Better to look for a loving new home than to neglect them though IMO. At least the parents are being somewhat realistic and not letting the animals starve
 
I grew up with all sorts of animals and never lost interest I agree with DHS that pets are for a family.

My Dad is a real Doctor Dolittle and I think its rub off on the rest of us, over the years we have given a forever home to hamster found in the gutter, a rabbit left lying in the road, 5 baby mice left in a plastic bag by the river sadly they all died a few days later despite feeds every 2 hours, a mouse once again in a plastic bag he had a full life, and that doesnt include the pets we actually chose for ourselves.

I could never get bored with Fugly everyday he does something new and makes me love him even more :smitten: :smitten:
 
90% of the people who phone me say the reason they need to rehome them is that the kids have either lost interest or the kids have grown out of them :o

Why do people buy piggies or other animals for kids if the adults have no interest themselves :-\
 
I agree Sokel I have always believed that when you make the choice to bring an animal into your home you make a commitment to that pet forever, you wouldnt give away a new baby because the children get bored of it why should a pet be any different.
 
LOL this made me smile i made the excuse they were for the kids but they were really for me !

The mentality of the parents is that animals are transient. If / once the kids lose interest just give them away!
Until peoples attitudes to pets changes there is no hope

I hope that these people are in the minority and that there are more animal lovers out there
 
Minky, I have a feeling that is the same reason I was allowed so many pets as a child! My Mum is animal-crazy! They were all for her really.

This is such an important subject. I think the amount of kids which lose interest in their pets within about 6 months is huge. If ever anyone says to me that they're thinking of buying their children a pet I always try to stress how long animals live and will their kids interest last that long because if not it's so sad that so many people don't take responsibility and dump it on someone else. I'm not quite as blunt as that but I hope it makes them think. I think a lot of parents get the animal because it's the latest craze, it doesn't cost them too much if they get the smallest cage etc, and then if it doesn't work out it can be passed on like a toy. I honestly don't think it occurs to a lot of people that it's not nice to pass an animal on and if it does occur to them, it doesn't bother them.

Thats bad.If the person isnt going to look after the animal for as long as it lives they should never of bought the thing ¬_¬.
 
If the parents are saying we cant be bothered to look after them anymore, lets give them away what is that teaching the children?
Kids are going to grow up thinking if you get bored of a pet its ok, you just hand it back and go get something else. :(
 
that is just so immature.. people need to think these things through before buying a pet. when i was younger i had 2 hamsters, 1 of them my sister lost interest in and she asked me if i wanted to take her hamster and i said of course i would! Misty was her name she lived for 2yrs and 9mths, my other hamster lived 2yrs, 4mths. they died almost ten years ago and i still miss them! when i get a pet, to me it is a serious thing... i take the pet into my life and will keep taking care of them until the day they are no longer with me and have gone on to the Rainbow Bridge.

its so sad that some people think pets are not that important...what is all this telling the pet? that they;re worthless? :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: >:( :'(
 
I have battles with my parents about my pigs (I don't live at home) my Dad thinks they are pointless, they don't fly! 98) He used to race pidgeons, he thinks the pigs are all work and I don't get nothing from them. But for me its the reverse, it is offering an animal a chance of a decent life! I don't see it as extra work, I could watch them all day running around their run in the living room! They are a good excuse for missing the soaps. And they give me so much enjoyment and if they are happy I am happy, they are my babies!

My mum has warmed to them but doesn't like them in MY house! 98) She said when Cuzzy died that I should get rid of them all! So I did the opposite and got Pudsey for Eccles, you have to put the animal first! With parents like mine you would think I'd be anti animal but I'm the opposite, I'm such a rebel! ;D
 
The parents need to accept the pets are their responsibility, they set a bad example for children by teaching that pets are easy to get rid of.
There are far too many ads in the classifieds, but they all want to make their money back, surely the animals welfare is more important than making a couple of quid.
Atleast these animals are given the chance of a better life, I have read stories of people letting them lose to fend for themselves or even leaving them in their cages to starve to death.
