Why did my guinea pig scare my other guinea pig?

My guinea pig, bean, was laying in the hammock taking a nap and my other guinea pig, Franny, scared her. Bean screamed and jumped right out of the hammock and Franny jumped into it. Then a couple minutes later I heard Bean jump and scream again, but then when I look over she is laying in the hammock and Franny is on the other side of the cage. What happened?

Likely that nothing happened as such, one piggy wanted the hammock - a dominant piggy will always get what they want. It is best to have two of every item in their cage, so if they both like a hammock, then it would be wise to get another one so they can both use one at the same time

I suspect the boss pig took the hammock... a 'scream' is often a sign of submission and not fear by a subordinate piggy. The boss takes what the boss wants, it's all the perks of being the boss! Some dominant pigs are more laid back and others like to throw their weight around... my previous queen bee pig, Linney, would wake up every time her cagemate drank and shove them out of the way so that she got to drink first, even though she clearly wasn't thirsty because she had been sleeping. It's just that no one got a drink before Linney got a drink! LOL!

I didn’t know that it was a submissive noise! This makes SO much more sense. If Al is occupying the house that Winston has “claimed” (it’s a bit bigger but not my much), I’ll hear Al “scream” and run of it and Winston just sits in the doorway
