I have made myself feel miserable, I was on the RSPCA website looking at what guineas they have and there are so many that were 'handed in as strays' or 'found in a box in a park' - I really don't understand how you can get to the point where you think it is ok to just abandon your pets. Surely, SURELY there is another option, even putting them on one of the dreaded 'sale' websites would be a better option than just dumping them, wouldn't it? It makes me think about the guineas that never get found...

The worst thing about that is, in my opinion (and apart from leaving animals like that, ofc), that people who do that don't even think about it. They just dump them whenever is best for themselves and forget about it... Many many people don't see animals as living beings who suffer in many ways just like they do. And that, with small animals, is even worse because so many people has this attitude where they think that because the animal is small and is sold as cheap, they don't have any value at all.

It just makes me sick.
But I'm glad that out there there are rescues who help as many as they can and make these poor animals feel loved.

It really upsets me too. I think a lot of animals (small animals in particular) are seen as disposable pets. The idea is that you bought it at the pet store for twenty dollars and that's all it's worth. One of my friends has a guinea pig who she found abandoned in a park in a shoe box. Poor little guy! He was lucky that he got a good home in the end, he could just as easily have died of heat exhaustion in the box.

Every now and then I also look on Kijiji or something (buy and sell site) and am always sad at how many pigs are on those sites with an explanation that they are two or three years old and 'we don't have time for them anymore.' How much time does it really take? You are all that animal knows... I can't imagine taking one of my pets out of a home that they've always known and just handing them over because I got bored with them. It's their whole world. :(
