Why Do People Think Guinea Pigs Are Hamsters?

Hubby calls rhino a guinea rat all the time, he does it to wind me up tho.....it works :cen:
 
A lot of people including one of my best friends calls Hazel a hamster, but when I say "She is a hamster not a guinea pig!" in a raised and serious sounding voice they usually do not call her a hamster again.
 
Someone used to do this with me...they used to ask me how my gerbils were. One day I asked him how his kids were....referring to them as dogs 'how are your dogs today?' He never called them gerbils again :-)
 
My first guinea pig was a hamster too!

(though to be fair I'm pretty sure my brother KNEW he was a guinea pig when he told my mum hamster and just knew she'd say yes to a small hamster rather than a larger animal as a guinea pig) :))
 
Actually, a couple of months ago my father in law asked if Hadley was the new hedgehog. He obviously remember that I used to have hegehogs as pets (though not for seven or more years now) and did not know the difference between a hedgehog and a guinea pig. Though I'm not surprised, sadly my in-laws don't show any interest in all at anything the the kids and I do and never have, so not having a clue about the family pets is par for the course.
