Why does my guinea pig do this?

He does this sometimes. Seems like he’s gargling or something? Hope you can help me figure it out.

Sounds (and looks) like teeth chattering to me - usually a sign of discontent. Is he on his own? Does he have plenty of space (hideys/loads of hay/room to run around?)?

My eldest boy makes this noise when he wants to be put back in his home, or when I'm running late with dinner (so, almost daily as he thinks dinner is immediately after breakfast..!)

Very handsome boy, by the way!
 
I recently got him a companion! There wasn’t much teeth chattering after that but there has been a lot of rumbling as he’s trying to assert his dominance. 😆 Hopefully they’ll get along well!
