Hey guys,
Just a general question, i been looking on websites just generally looking at guinea pigs.

is it just me or is there alot more boys fr sale than normal?
why does no one want them?
poor little things x

I know... Poor boys get so over looked at times...!
I have in at the moment 18 boys waiting for there forever homes...
The sad thing about it is on the whole boys are so much more affectionate and loving... I find then much more forgiving then girls...
Poor poor bores....

I love boys too.

I had mainly girls but I have had in the past 2 boys,. and have 3 at the moment.

I would have them all if I could.

I'd like to oen a rescue for guineas and i know its a lot of work, which i am dedicated too. I just dont hav the hutches and space at the moment as am in rented property butlooking to buy soon so hopefully will be able to build more hutches and runs etc for them and then consider taking in unwanted piggies. :-)

I love my boys and have always found them to be more affectionate too. not that i didnt love my girls *** i did.!

I think the reason that there are so many in rescues is because boars only (on the whole) come in pairs - whereas with girls you can have as many as space and temperament allows (I now have 15 girls and a boy in one herd and one other girl that lives with her own husboar - then a pair of boars). You need quite a bit more in terms of living accommodation for boars than you do for sows, so there ends up being both more boars that take longer to find new homes.

Until recently I'd only had boars. My first few piggies were boars, then some girls joined (who accidentally got pregnant and had plenty of baby boys) but now I have the space I've gone for a large herd of girls with a neutered male. I think once I get a job when I graduate (or a part time job at uni if I can find one) I'm going to buy a two tier 5x2 hutch and rehome a couple of pairs of boars. I miss having a lot of boars, though my 4 cheeky chappies keep me occupied when the sows are grumpy gits! :)

Hit the nail on the head...
And I really think that boys are just so much more loving... They can take a bit more work at times but they are so worth it...!

Not sure if you were joking of it's true lol...are boys smellier? I know my daughter would say 'yes' but she wouldn't be talking about guinea pigs and she's 7 and silly lol! Apart from our hens all our pets are boys I've just realised!

Because they are silly! I love boys nearly all my guinea pig's have been boars and the two I have at the moment are.

The sad thing about it is on the whole boys are so much more affectionate and loving... I find then much more forgiving then girls...

I've found this as well, I've loved all the girls I've had previously but my boys are special. :)

id also just like to add, its probs because they are smelly little critters!

i love that! totally agree, but i love them.

I got 3 boys and they are my babies. would change them for the world.

it is a shame that boys cant live in huge groups like girls, but thatslike men really isnt it lol! cant be a group without any arguing lol!

I love boars, all mine are snipped as I have girls too, I'm lucky to have a cavy savvy vet and understanding employers (who are currently encouraging me to get a £100 bonus to pay for Cherry's lump removal op!)

When I lost my Whiskey, we were going to get a sow to go with Noodles, but when it has come to it I can't do it...it would be too like I was replacing Whiskey...so we have reserved a very beautiful and cuddly neutered boar, bringing the boar:sow ratio to 1:2 now in this house - the boars are slowly taking over!
