Why is fleece bedding making my Sow Rolo’s belly wet?

Hi All,

I had recently adopted two 6 month old sows.

Rolo & Roxy!

For the last week they have had the traditional bedding hay and chip but after doing research people have said about fleeces. I washed and cleaned their indoor cage today. First layer newspaper then plenty of puppy pads then fleeces ontop that I got in the baby section in Home Bargains. I cuddled Rolo today and noticed her belly is wet from urine. Have I done something wrong? So worried that I could cause her problems from this? x

did you wick the fleece before use? Fleece has to be washed three or four times with detergent only (no softener) to get the urine to go through it to the puppy pads underneath. If urine is sitting on top and not going through to the puppy pads then it isn’t wicking properly
