Hello,
I've had my pig, named Piggy, for about 3 weeks now. Initially he was skittish, but we've made a lot of progress and he now only hides occasionally. I try to pick him up once a day. However, he keeps making this sound whenever i hold him, no matter how long and no matter what position. I don't know exactly what it means, but it sounds like he's distressed. Does anyone else agree, or is it something else? He doesn't run away or hide when i put him back into his cage. I just want him to feel comfortable and happy :(

Ir's a grumpy noise. He's okay, you're not hurting him, he's just having a whinge.

Mine do it sometimes, they're not great fans of hugs, like many pigs aren't and they start to have a whinge after a while.

He is trusting you enough to tell you that he is apprehensive and not quite happy; it is a great step forward. Guinea pigs are prey animas and not born as cuddly pets, so it is a long and rather slow process.

Mine often make this noise to each other. Jingle will do it during lap time too. Mistletoe squeaks her head off whenever I pick her up!
