This is poor Elvis who came to LB a few weeks ago. He had lived with a piggy friend for a couple of years but the buddy died so the previous owner decided it was a good idea to get him a rabbit friend. At first as a baby they were fine apparently but as the rabbit grew up he attacked Elvis.

The owner had taken him to the vet to be pts but thankfully they phoned me. Obviously he has no sight in his eye and sadly the eyelid is missing so closing the eye is not an option. However, I have taken him to the eye specialist and we are happy that he is comfortable and will monitor his health. The scabs are slowly healing around his eye area but his ear has been bitten half off and he is still shy on his head.

He's a sweet little boy who is really happy to be indoors out of any draft. He has lubricant on his eye twice a day and that really helps but I am really pleased with his progress. He will remain a single piggy but he does love all the interaction within the piggery and of course he will remain here as a forever resident.

He didn't have a name when he came here so I have called him Elvis as he has a very attractive "quiff

Poor elvis! :(
I'm so glad he's safe with you now. This should be displayed in pet shops, on the RSPCA anywhere where it will help educate people. I have been dealing with my council about a local pet shop doing this and I think they should we this too to really drive home why it isn't acceptable nor safe.

I hope elvis has a long and happy life now poor piggy!

OMG - the poor baby 8...
I hovvered until I picked up my nerve to look as I feel guilty burying my head in the sand and not seeing things as they really are.
Thank heavens the vet contacted you - I wonder how many animals they have 'saved' from being PTS ?
Sending gentle cuddles to Elvis and wish him a lovely new life with you x>>
Please keep us updated on his progress :)

Omg poor elvis, I wish everyone could be educated about this but I guess some still never listen, how he has a lovely life now x

Oh dear, poor Elvis :(

Thank you for taking care of him now.

I know how much a rabbit can hurt first hand as i have a grumpy bun called Victor, the front paws can come down with some force not to mention the nails and teeth. It hurts me and i'm much bigger than my grumpy Victor.
If anyone has heard a rabbit that is upset kick out with their back legs on to a wooden hutch it us like a hammer being slammed.

It doesn't surprise me that Piggies end up like this if they live with a rabbit, and it wouldn't surprise me if bones are broken or a piggy has brain damage.

Poor Elvis would have been in so much pain and frightened ~
For the sake of these sort of things happening over and over again please any one who keeps rabbits and guinea Pigs living together, or knows of friends and family that do please educate them of the dangers.

Easier said than done! Though a few people have listened ... most just laugh and say I dont know what I am talking about ... same with cages sizes ... an 80cm cage is fine for 4 piggies didnt you konw! grrr

Sometimes the shoe is on the other foot - so to speak. Years ago my sister kept a bunny and a guinea together and one morning found the bunny with it's eyeball literally hanging out and it's rectum and vagina also completely torn apart ................al the work of the piggy. The poor bunny had to be destroyed :(
Cant seem to get through to people that these are entirely different species. You wouldn't keep a crocoadile with a hamster...............:{

Thankfully poor Elvis has been relatively lucky and has found a safe home with you.

It's just mad to think people still think this is an ok way to treat creatures.

Poor Elvis, glad he is safe and with you now :) Will he find a piggy friend in the future?

Oh no poor Elvis :'(
Glad he's found safety with you, i really didn't expect it to be such a horrid picture when i opened the thread, it's so horrible and makes me even more angry that people find it okay to keep guinea pigs and rabbits together.
Hope that he recovers well and that he enjoys his new and safer home with you.

I am really happy you have rescued him. Years ago I worked at a school and even though I begged them not to the teachers got a baby rabbit and a piggie. They were fine together. One week I was off with celulitis, on the Friday the piggie was found almost motionless. Piggie was taken to the vets and they think he was kicked, and he was pts. I felt so guilty for not being there but he did sound in a bad way. The bunny was rehomed with a lady who had lost hers after years and last I heard he was still thriving. I often wonder if it was the bunny though and not something else.
Sorry Elvis, I am off topic, xx
