I can't help but notice that there seems to be a lot of guinea pigs out there looking for a new home. I have noticed that many of the people who rescue on here are full to the brim :( Why are there so many? is it because a lot of them are unwanted Christmas presents? I just feel so sad that so many piggies appear to have been abandoned :0

At least there are nice people out there taking in these unwanted piggies and trying to find them loving homes xx

I know, it is a shame. I can't understand how someone can get bored with a pet. :(

I would take a couple more on but I don't have the room. :(

Sadly, in addition to ones and twos that always come in as unwanted pets there have been some large intakes for most of the rescues on here. We can't let them go immediately until sure they are healthy, so they are the equivalent of the NHS 'bed blocking'. Included in the large groups coming in have been a number of very poorly piggies, and pregnant piggies as people have posted, and these little ones are taking a huge amount of time to bring back to health, and nurse through pregnancies. It's wonderful that forum members are pulling together to help in whatever way they can. I think the offer of transport, when members are going on a journey is great, it can hopefully help take out of rescue the healthy piggies and on to a new home. Please keep posting your journeys. xx

The worst I heard from "my" Swedish rescue is a person who changed her mind ON THE WAY FROM THE PET STORE! She was allowed to return all the "stuff", but not the (lone) piggy who ended up in the rescue...

What kind of world are we living in, if people buy animals with less thought and consideration than an H&M top....?

That is so sad :(

I don't know how people can look at their little faces then happily give them away. :(

They don't deserve animals anyway so they are doing the little mites a favour and letting them find a deserving and loving home.

I would think the situation would be greatly improved if pet stores knew how to sex them properly. My friend bought her kids 3 pigs and was told they were all female, turns out one was a boar! She now has 10 pigs as a result! Luckily she has a large enough property and enough time to care for them all but i'd hate to think how many times this is happening as we speak :(

In all fairness many pigs are handed over to rescues in tears because the family just can't keep them any more for health or personal reasons. It's one thing as an adult so say "allergies are manageble" (which I say often), and another thing making that decision for a child...

Sometimes pigs are rehomed because they don't work with their pig partner or because they were missexed when bought.

This is very true, but then often what happens is that the new owner of 10, thinks they can manage (don't mean your friend, just generalising) without knowing that the little lads can start to breed at 3 weeks......and on it goes. x

yeah I guess, luckily I warned her about the little boys but I bet most people would have no clue!
