Welcome to the forum.
Guinea pigs are basically furry food processors. They have insatiable appetites and all food is then processed out the other end.

Have a read of the feeding guide which will give you a good idea of a healthy diet for a guinea pig.
They should have unlimited hay, a few pellets (grain free is good) and about a cupful of veggies a day.

For treats mine get a handful of dill or a chunk of cucumber. You wouldn't believe how excited mine get over a piece of cucumber.

Hope that helps.

By the way - we do love pictures of the piggies

Thank you so much hehe she love some cucumber , I just tried it she is in love THANK YOU !

Lots of vegetables are great for treats - bell peppers, celery, the green tops of carrot (they can have a small piece of carrot occasionally, as it's high in sugar) strawberry leaves and runners, sometimes dandelions (all bits, except I don't give them the fluffy seed heads), but the stuff mine like best is plain old grass (make sure you get it from somewhere dogs or foxes don't wee). During summer, I build up to loads of grass and hardly any veg. With everything start slowly in case they get the runs from a change of diet. Have fun!

Something you could give piggies daily that is free -- grass! My piggies go nuts over it :) Just make sure you are 100% certain that there are no chemicals on the grass. If there isn't, you can give them a handful daily! Also, be careful to introduce grass slowly, as it can cause bloat if given too much at first. Another favorite snack is pea flakes. I have to purchase mine on Amazon, but the package lasts me a long time! You can also use pea flakes to train your piggie, to get them used to being held.

Hi and welcome

Please make sure that your piggies are on a good diet with over 80% of the daily food intake being unlimited hay; this is vital for general health, as well as key for keeping the crucial back teeth ground down evenly and the guts stable. The correct diet can add 1-2 years to your piggies' life.

Treat the small daily selection of veg and herbs (but preferably hardly any fruit) as well as the daily tablespoon of pellets as fun and treat time instead of concentrating on high calorie sugar and fat 'treats' that are harmful and life-shortening. By making your piggies work for their regular food, you have the fun of watching them and they lead an enriched life. ;)
Even offering different or speciality hays - like we liketo eat different breads, pasta, rice or potatoes - is actually enrichment for your guinea pigs.

Please take a look at these two links here. Our diet guide is looking at all food groups and also deals with healthy and unhealthy treats.
The enrichment guide with lots of pictures and videos can hopefully give you ideas about just how you can make some as simple as feeding time a lot more interesting.
Fun doesn't have to be expensive! Guinea pigs have a destructive streak, so brown paper bags filled with veg or soft hay, serving veg wrapped in brown paper or cut up toilet rolls turned into a ball and filled with some speciality hay gives your piggies incentive to use all their senses and train their intelligence. Hiding pellets in a stack of food bowls or sprinkling them around the cage gives your piggies challenges and makes you giggle.

THANK you , going to pick some grass now :P I've also never heard of pre flakes that's amazing

A helpful tip - use scissors to cut the grass! That way, you know that piggies aren’t eating the dirt :)

Welcome

My boy Finn and Lara love herbs as snacks like coriander, parsley, basil, mint, dill and etc. Hope this helps.

Recently I got some pea flakes...we have a newish girl Winny and she has already grasped the treats are coming when I rattle the little box... I only give 2 flakes at a time but it had helped her trust me a bit more! Carrot cottage are also a good idea they love to nibble on them!

I know that pea flakes are currently all the rage, but can I please put in a warning that they can contribute to long term urinary problems if overfed. They are treat, and like all treats they should not be regular but special.

Please read the diet and enrichment links I have parsed in my previous post; you do not need lots of treats when you can you make normal feeding lots of fun. A good diet can really add 1-2 years to a life span.

Please also be careful when introducing grass and lawn time to avoid diarrhea or bloating from an unaccustomed digestive system.

You could also buy some forage mix for them. Rosewood is usually a good brand.
