The time has come for them to be de-pompom'd!  I've booked them in with the gorgeous vet I met.  He sounds like a really promising Guinea Pig vet which I needed around here as I have been driving to the CCT for all my treatments - only the best for my babies!
Is it advisable that I take them in together in a carrier or seperate?  they live together but I was wondering if after the op they could accidently cause each other an injury....?

Re: Wiggy & Rusty off for the snip tomorrow

;D love the name 'wiggy' err sorry what i ment to say first was i would use to small carriers as they might be a bit woozy & not them self for a couple hours at least, but others might have better advice ive only ever taken seperate as in didnt -get -on-before-boars 2 be snipped so never had that prob !
;D ;D wiggy bless....

Re: Wiggy & Rusty off for the snip tomorrow

Re: Wiggy & Rusty off for the snip tomorrow

I haven't seen him since meeting him the once  :'(  but hair wash tonight, early bed so I'm looking my best :P

I can't believe that the only reason I'll be seeing him again is due to Guinea Pig testicles!  hurrah well at least I'm going to be getting a bit of eye candy tomorrow!

Hope he can find Wiggys manly parts under all that hair!  he's gonna need to loose quite a bit of hair for the operation to be done - poor boy!

Then its talking Pumpkinpiggy into starting another herd of pigs so that she can have her beloved Wiggy back with her  >:D

Are we talking about the guinea or the vet now?

Re: Wiggy & Rusty off for the snip tomorrow

I think we I need the vet in tact thank you JB, may be useful at a later date!

I'm just about to run to the shop to get the boys an extra tasty treat before we leave - I'm sure they know they're giving me odd looks!

Re: Wiggy & Rusty off for the snip tomorrow

Good luck little dudes. .... sure they will be back home and up to their antics before you know it. :)

Re: Wiggy & Rusty off for the snip tomorrow

Well I've just had a call to say that they have been done & are both ok :smitten:
They did however say that they have never seen so much hair shaved off a small animal just for a castration before!
I thought that they were calling to say something had gone wrong because they weren't going to operate till 2pm - but they decided to do an early surgery today.
Didn't get to talk to fit vet - but did see him >:( . So picking the boys up at 4pm. 0:)

Well done boys :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Re: Wiggy & Rusty off for the snip tomorrow

Thanks for calling me Hilary after they had been done. Wondering what Wiggy will look bless him he will look all skinny with all that hair gone. Bet Rusty will have that look in his eyes when you pick him up. I booked Rimmer in for Monday and I am pooping myself.

Re: Wiggy & Rusty off for the snip tomorrow

I will take you as promised if you need the lift still.  When they weighed Wiggy they were shocked at how light he was.  He eats for England & has been Ivomec'd but is still only 950g.  But Rusty was 1300g I think - what a little porker!  One of the nurses is seriously into Rabbits & Guinea Pigs too which is great because they are in charge of their after care & will be able to spot anything wrong quicker than a 'dog' lover nurse for example.  Apparantly all the vets who castrate pigs there will only use the glue method because they have had such a sucess with it they don't want to go back to stitching.   I am so pleased to have possibly found a Cavy Savy vet in Nottingham at last  :)

Re: Wiggy & Rusty off for the snip tomorrow

So glad that they are ok. Aww at Wiggys weight bless him but he does eat well. Rusty is such a poker and hes not greedy he shared with Wiggy while they was here. Never once did I see him chase him away from food.

Re: Wiggy & Rusty off for the snip tomorrow

Maybe all the food goes into growing all that hair!

Re: Wiggy & Rusty off for the snip tomorrow

Glad they're ok :) :-*

They're now home which is a relief. Within 30 seconds of them being back in their now padded cell...sorry cage, they were tucking into their food & squabbling over parsley. I was expecting them to be traumatised & hiding not acting as if nothing has happened 98)
I have photographic evidence but the battery is charging because it ran out the second I took the pic.
Rusty has come back with more than he started with because he is slightly swollen down there - so it looks like nothing has been removed! But my neutered boy Spud is like that - there is still a manly bulge, probably due to him being castrated as an older boar - who knows?

Anyway they're home & happy - now I need a strong drink!

Aww pour yourself a large one drink that is ;D so glad to hear they have come round ok. Gives me a lot of hope for Monday now too. I am worried about it though.

Have you bedded them down on towels? Thats what I am going to do and change them often. Would of loved to of seen them attack the parsely.

padded cell? you kept that hidden when i was round there woman!

and i bet Rusty feels happy hes got a manly bulge LMAO

Yes they are on light coloured towels & a few old T-shirts to notice if there is any discharge or nasties that there shouldn't be. Also it stops any bedding getting stuck in the wound.
I gave them the parsley in a saucer with a bit of water because I have read about them sometimes not drinking after going under general anestetic. I thought that if they had something wet to eat it will get a bit of fluid in them, & these boys love their parsley. I had 10 cucumber pieces chopped into perfect cubes to see if they were eating when I wasn't around - needn't have worried about that one!
Michelle, I have booked Wiggy & Rusty in for their post op check when I take you in with Rimmer on monday morning 9am.
