Will a neutered sow get on with my boar?

Hi all,
thanks you all for your recent kind words about Frank. We got two little boars to try and bond with Bowie, but sadly one of them proved VERY violent towards him and I didn't want to risk him getting hurt. We gave the two young boars to a friend who lives locally who can take good care of them and thy can live in peace :) However a local breeder who supplies the pet shops in our area has offered me a chance to take a neutered sow off her hands. This poor lady had a difficult pregnancy when she was a little too old and has since been spayed. Would she get on well with my boar Bowie do you think? I wouldn't want to stress either of them out, so thought I would ask before I sadi definately "yes"!

Thanks in advance :)

Yes it could well work, certainly worth a try. I know Tracy from rabbit and guinea pig welfare neuters all her sows and has done neutered sow/un-neutered boar pairings many times with success. I also did it once for someone and it worked out very well 8)

Neutered sows are quite hard to come by though aren't they? Any ideas of anyone 'up north' who neuters sows?

As far as I know Tracy is the only one that routinely neuters sows. The only ones i have had done are when they have had to have emergency c-sections and had them done at the same time.

I tried all the rescues in Wales and resorted to asking the local pet store for their supplier :p She offered to book in a sow to the vet and I pay for the spaying, but I would rather have her slightly older sow and not have to worry about some poor little piggy going through a major operation unecessarily. This is the same reason I don't want to neuter Bowie - I worry about small animals and operations :( This girly is "around 2 years old" and had a difficult litter at just over a year old, so is about twice Bowie's age. I'm sure he will enjoy being a toyboy :D

:) All you can do is try it. Most will work but I've had a few sows that attack some boars and one boar that attacked a sow- these are in the minority. Try it and see.
