benson is an adult male aged 4 and mike shares a cage, he is male aged 8 weeks.

Mike is not yet brave enough to eat off our laps. I invested in a cosy to stuff with alfafa hay for mike, thinking that benson would be too big to get into the cosy. However, invariably benson's rotunde posterior and unfeasibly large testicles can be seen blocking the entrance to the cosy (whilst his front end has probed right into the far reaches and is busy gobbling )
The long and short of it is that benson is eating more alfafa hay than mike. Will mike thrive perfectly well on timothy hay alone? I haven't been putting alfafa in every day anyway as i know benson shouldnt be having it.

Any suggestions as to how mike could get this hay or should i just withdraw it altogether? Thanks

My understanding of alfalfa hay is that because it is a legume hay it is much higher than grass hays in protein and calcium so should only be used as a treat. It the baby isn't getting much I would take it out, young piggies don't have to have alfalfa hay and I would be worried about doing more harm than good with high calcium and extra calories for your adult boar
