I've had a sore throat for a few days and this morning woke up to an all-singing all-dancing mother of all colds :(

Can piggies catch our germs? Shall I give them a wide berth for a couple of days? (apart from the basics obviously)

I'm not too sure - when I have a cold I just make sure I don't kiss my piggies too much just in case - same with my cockatiel, I don't not go near him, I just don't kiss him lots like I usually do!

My rodentologist says yes they can catch our colds :)

Peter Gurney said they could and to wear those little paper masks near them if you have a cold. I minimise contact and wash hands alot, definately don't do cuddles if I have.

Oh, thanks everyone for your replies.

I've got a box full of those paper masks which I use while doing nails if there's lots of dust so I'll pop one on when I'm sorting out the guineas! The kids will cuddle them anyway, it's me that'll miss out actually, not the guineas!

And I have a virus, I feel awful, I have a sore throat and clogged up nose. ::) :(

Looks like its been caught off here then we can all moan together ;D hope we all get better soon :)

I have had this just over week now and it is one of those illnesses that don't want to go. I hope we all get better soon as well. :)

I had it too, for around a week, but it's starting to go now, just got a bit of a blocked nose and sore throat! I thought I was dying at the time :(

As no one else will care for my piggies when I'm ill with "just" a cold, I have to feed etc mine but I don't tend to handle them when I'm poorly as I don't want to risk it.

How weird quite a few of us have colds or illnesses related to the colder months at this time of the year. ? :)

I blame the weather ;D
One minute it's hot, next it's cold. Maybe mother nature is indeed father nature and that's why it's so tempremental ;D
