Hi

I had 2 male pigs of about 3 years old who weren't brothers but had been together since they were young. Unfortunately one of them had been ill recently and sadly died last night.

I am now a little concerned that the remaining one will be lonely - what do you think?

I had a single male many years ago as a child who seemed to be quite happy and lived a long and healthy life. The remaining piggy was also bullied at times by the other pig so also wondering if perhaps he will appreciate some peace and quiet. Any thoughts?

welcome to the forums from me and the girls in oz. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: am so sorry for the lost of your piggy :'( :'( :'( may he RIP run free and popcorn in paradise and find eternal peace. 0:) 0:) 0:) as for your piggy being lonely i would give him so time to grieve over his friend and watch him to see if there are signs of depression. do you know what his friend died of? would it be worth while getting your remaining piggy checked out?
perhaps if you have another cage you could get some rescue piggies and put their cage next to your piggies cage so he has some company :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: sending you both hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: if your little boy is desexed maybe he'd like a little girlie friend. girls send :-* :-* :-* thinking of you and welcome again. RIP sweet baby. 0:) 0:) 0:) :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

I'd give it a few days and if he seems a little down i'd get him a little boar (or 2) to play with. If he is castrated (or this can be done) i'd get him some female company.
Is he kept indoors? If he lives in the heart of the home he may well be ok on his own and enjoy the undevided attention from you. xx

Thanks for your thoughts. Not sure what Fudge died of, he was only 3 but hadn't been himself for a couple of weeks. He started off with diarrhoea so I took him to the vets who gave me some pro biotics for him. They seemed to perk him up quite a bit and he was eating and drinking as normal but then he seemed to get a bit of impaction and his tummy seemed to get larger but vets didn't think it was bloat as he was still eating as normal. Anyway, he suddenly went downhill on Sunday and went to Heaven over night. :'(

His friend Coco could obviously tell he was ill but hopefully it wasn't catching, no symptoms yet and Coco is eating and drinking normally. Bought him some new toys for the run yesterday and he has been been running backwards and forwards through a giant tube so hopefully he will be ok!

Have to say what a great website this is, I love all the pics (why are guinea pigs soooo cute?) and the advice. Think I will find a pic of my boys to upload so Fudge can live on.

:)

am so sorry to hear of fudge passing, you did all you could. there is a section here called rainbow bridge pets if you want to do a tribute for fudge. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: fudge knew you and coco loved him and you both did all you could, RIP sweet fudge run free and popcorn in paradise and watch over your mummy and coco and stay in their hearts and be with them in spirit 0:) :'( :'( :'( 0:) 0:) glad coco is having fun with his new toys. sending you both hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-*

RIP little one. I would watch how the other one is over the next few days. If he looks and acts a little depressed you wil notice and if it happens try getting him a young boar for company. xx

Even if Coco was bullied by Fudge he may still miss the company of another pig. Like others have said, if he's a constantly indoor pig he could stay alone, with company from humans, but I prefer to try and pair guineas up if possible. He could have a female friend but like everyone else said he would need to be neutered. You could try a baby boar with him but I would think twice about 3 boars together. They would need a lot of space & it may not work.

hello my name is Karen and I have just joined this forum.

I am so sorry to hear one of your boys passed away that must hav bn so hard wen u had them for that long

My husband and I have two boy piggies who we bought together almost two years ago. Sometimes they get annoyed with each other an have little scraps but as soon as u take one out of the cage the other one goes mental an starts to lk for the one thats missing - either cos they r missing them or cos they think they r getting sum food. I worry that wen one of ours goes the other one will b lonely but I am sure u will give the remaining one all the love an care in the world as we will will do wen the time comes for ours to go to piggy heaven

Sending hugs to you and your remaining piggy xx
