Hey guys. Worried piggy mum here again. Does anyone know if guinea pigs can get a stomach bug/flu from humans. My entire family is down with it at the minute and I just want to know if I should be on stand by with them in case they get ill. Its one of these horrible bugs that causes vomiting and severe diarrhea :td:

As long as you practice good hygiene it shouldn't be an issue. Wash hands etc... before touching piggies/piggies food.

Hope you are all feeling better soon.

Thank you so much. Stomach bugs are terrible but I'm more concerned about the pigs than I am myself.

Maybe some plastic gloves for food prep too? Will keep germs well away that way.

agreed with the plastic gloves if you are worried- i also do the same when i am ill. As long as you wash your hands thoroughly i think they should be fine x

There is no consistent evidence that guinea pigs can catch tummy bugs (especially norovirus) from humans apart from anecdotal evidence. However, we recommend that you please either wash your hands thoroughly and/or wear disposible gloves for food prep or and any absolutely necessary handling for at least 48 hours after your acute symptoms have subsided.

I hope that you feel better soon!
