I am just back from the dotors as my eye's have been really bad the past week and he has tried me on a few different treatments for it but nothing is clearing it up. They are so swollon I can barely see, bloodshot and weeping constantly resulting in splits in the sides of my eye's. Anyway he says it is a bad allergy and most prob because i have always been slightly allergic to the pig's it's them and it will only get worse as allergy's strength the more they are exposed so eventually the swelling could go to my throat. I can't live like this so am gonna try them outside but as they have always been house piggies do you think there'd be ok? I have no room in the garage just yet but will put them in there come winter. i can't bare to rehome them so just looking at other options as can't live like this :'(

Oh my! What an awful dilemma for you.

I'd put them in well ventilated and warm hutches with hutch huggers or the like overnight, in the most sheltered part of your garden. Good luck.

It seems a it rash but the only sensible option open to you and parting with them would be heart-breaking for you (and them)!

With plenty of bedding they should be ok outside, as long as they have a sturdy hutch and are sheltered from any strong winds etc.

Hope it works out for you!

I already have a big 5ft by 2ft double hutch but haven't been able to face putting them outside! :'(

It has it's back next to a wall so that should keep some warmth in, what is the best bedding to use outside? I currently use megazorb and hay is this ok? Have snugg bags too. Oh god feel a right cow just thinking about it. I will get a cover for the hutch before putting them outside but seriously I can't live like this forever I'm in agony! :'(

Don't worry hun, mine are outside all the time, because my evil OH won't allow them in the house!

Mine are being moved into the garage over winter, but are fine just now.

Oh don't be too hard on yourself. You know you are doing this for the best and it does seem to me to be the only way you can keep them.

I can't have all mine indoors either because of dander allergy I'm only very slight with it though but its enough to make you feel horrible!

They will be fine, this may be a temporary thing with the pollen, did he recommend medication to ease symptoms?

Hope things work out. x

Lots of little piggies live happy, healthy lives outside, you never know, they might prefer it! All the interesting sights and sounds, it will be a piggy adventure. :) as long as they are well wrapped up they will be fine.
Hope your eyes are feeling better soon!

i've got the hutch hugger (the green one with an all plastic front) on my hutch. i reckon its great, it keeps the rain off and the wind out. if it's a yucky day (like today) you can just leave it down and be happy that they are warm and dry all day.

my mum kindly made me one for my other hutch - a much cheaper option - she used material from a tent fabric supplier and put a plastic window in.

my pigs have always lived outdoors due to OH's allergy and they are fine, as long as they have plenty of hay to snuggle in they always feel toasty warm.

well got it today and a load of foam as well to insulate the hutch a little bit more, feel a bit better about it today. They are gonna have more room so will be happier in that respect and oh said he will attach a hole and big run for them as well so all good we already have the run so just need a walk way thingy :D
