On Friday as some of you know my oldest girl got put down. Trixie and Luna don't seem to know what to do now. They are reluctant to eat carrot and some fruit sticks and they sit in hideys all day. They don't seem to be their usual selves. They didn't know daisy for long so it's not like a lifelong friend has gone. I'm getting them some friends at the weekend. Will that help them?

Hi! Even though they haven't been with Trixie all that long, they are still grieving and you have to allow them that time. They are ready for new company when they are going back to their normal routine.

Please take the time to read our bereavement guide. Make sure that you follow our bonding tips for intros on neutral ground.

Thank you. Daisy died not Trixie. I went through all that with daisy last month when Hazel died. Should I get them some companion?

Sorry about the mix up of names. If Trixie and Hazel are getting on well, they do not need a new companion but if you want to another one, I would recommend considering dating a neutered boar at a good standard rescue to allow them to have their own say. Not all older ladies will welcome a new addition.

Trixie and Luna are 3 months old. There are no rescue centres near me. I'm going to pets at home if it sounds good to get companions for them.

If you do, please get two girls (much less risk of an outsider problem as you get small group dynamics coming into play) and double-check the gender before any introductions. Also consider a quarantine; ringworm is still a major problem with p@h branches, as several new owner members on here can attest.
