Hi,

I'm looking into getting a C&C cage as heard that they offer more space overall for piggies to roam. I'm still doing my research and haven't bought a cage yet. I've limited space for the actual cage as I'll be keeping it indoors in my kitchen. I want to get a 2 x 3 grid cage with a 1 x 2 loft. The website that I'm thinking of buying it from says that 2 x 3 grids is ok for up to but obviously no more than 2 guinea pigs. I'm thinking of getting a pair of bonded rescue boars. I don't really have space to go more than 1 metre in length at the moment, as the cage will be on the floor, which is why I thought that adding a loft would be better as they'll have the equivalent of 4 x 2 squares. Is it possible to get a 2 x 3 cage with a double loft for even more space?

Aside from the cage the piggies will also have the length of my kitchen to roam every day when they are outside the cage, and I am also planning on getting them an outdoor run as well for when the weather improves that they can go out in for a few hours either on the lawn or patio. I plan to give them daily exercise outside of their cage for a couple of hours if they are comfortable with this, as well as lap and grooming time. Will this be ok? Opinions please. :)
 
The minimum cage size for two boars is 140 cm by 60 cm. Levels do not count as extra space as often guinea pigs do not use them. I would not go with anything smaller then 2 by 4. I got rid of furniture to make room for my cage as I live in a studio flat.

What will happen when you cook and use your washing machine, if it is in the kitchen. The steam and heat from cooking?
 
usually 5x2 is the minimum recommended if you have boars. but bigger is obviously better. no matter how much out of cage time they have, they still need the minimum for the times they are in there. if you use the grids and cable tie them, you can make a foldable run that you can clip onto the cage. that way, it can be left up as much as possible for extra space, but taken down easily if needed, for cleaning etc. :)
 
Right, thanks for that, I didn't realise that lofts didn't count as extra space. Thanks for the link, I'll take a good look now :)
 
As said above, levels does not add to floor space, piggies prefer ground space.

I personally think a 2x3 isn't suitable for two piggies, a 2x4 is better really.
 
Even 2x4 for boars may be a bit crampt. It is ok for sows, but as boars can have scuffles and disagreements, they need more space.
 
I've measured up and changed the location of where the cage is going to go. I'm going to get a 2 x4 cage with a loft. That's the maximum that I can go to for now, but at least I now know that you can clip runs onto them, so I can always look at doing that at night or during the day if they are out for play time. :)
 
Exciting stuff! C&C cages are great, when we changed to one it made a real difference to how we could interact with our piggies. You can reach right in and I found our newbies got used to us a lot more.
 
It does sound great - can't wait to see it! I've seen strawberry cosies on here somewhere - might be worth searching for to go with the theme!
