I usually weigh the boys every 3 days, but I've been a terrible mummy and left it 5 days between their weigh in this time :x :red

Anyways William LOST a lot of weight when Keithy died and since then we have been feeding him back up - he has always been a slender piggie and not a porker, but when Keithy died he dropped to 1lb 5oz :(

Anyways we have managed to get it back up to 1lb 15oz in the past few weeks since getting Alan & Clive and he's been as happy as larry.

Now the weigh in I did about an hour ago put William at 1lb 10oz - he was 1lb 15oz FIVE days ago. So in five days he's lost 5oz 8...8

We took him to the vets about a week and a half ago she checked him over and was thorough - teeth, nails, ears, eyes, nose, body EVERYTHING and found nothing wrong with him rolleyesrolleyes I know piggies are so good at hiding illness, but there has been NO change in his behaviour.

He is bumbling about in the same old way he's always bumbled, he's eating - anything from pellets, to hay to fresh to poops! He's drinking, he's snuggling, he's batting the boys away when they hump. So he's not lost his spark he's just lost weight.

I'm going to monitor him and do two hand feeds a day of mushed up pellets to build his weight back up and of course if his behaviour changes I will whisk him to the vets.

I don't know if I am doing the best for him or what :{:{

ARGH! Why do piggies make us so worried!

Hello team WAC! I don't have much advice on this (relatively new piggie owner) but I have found that if I weigh my girls at different times of the day their weight fluctuates...for example, before/after eating times. I try to always weigh them in the morning now before they have eaten any veggies just to try and increase my accuracy of weighing! Hope this helps, and hope little William is ok x

Hiya, That is a big a weight loss, perhaps it's due to be humped by his two friends as patience as he may be it could be stress, a vet apt is a very good idea.

My first thought is that weight loss may be due to increased activity. When I introduced my neutered boar to my girls they all lost around 50g in a week. rolleyes

However, 5oz is about 140g which is a lot to lose in 5 days. I would weigh him daily for the time being and try to do it at the same time every day. If you supplement his feeding he should put on weight (oats are also good to help with this), and if he continues to lose weight, then I would take him back to the vet.

Sorry yes me being old school using lb's and oz's! rolleyes

He's eaten A LOT tonight so I at the moment I am going to pop it down to being pestered by Alan & Clive, I will be calling the vets tomorrow and sorting an appointment out.

I would agree that it is probably due to the youngsters and the constant humping. It can be very stressful for a piggy, even if it doesn't show on the surface.

Could you try and give William some out times every day, either when the youngsters are going into a run for extra activity or by taking William out for some much needed R&R and spare food?
Please give him extra vitamin C to help strengthen his defenses (1/8 of a normal tablet, dissolved in a bit of water and then syringed).

I will give him the extra Vit C now - I never thought of giving him just a little extra. There are four food bowls now, a hay rack and bits of food for them all tonight.

William is getting as much R&R as he will allow us, before wanting to go back with the boys - I guess I need to be more strict with him and keep him away longer, ignoring his whines! Every time someone goes out for a snuggle William gets an extra 15 minutes either side of the boys snuggles.

I.e. William comes out, 15 minutes later the two rascals come out, the rascals get popped back, William gets popped back 15 minutes after them.

During this time he also gets extra food and from tomorrow he will get some syringe food to bump his weight up too.

Come on William pork up!

Poor William, think it's a good idea to take him to the vets tomorrow just to get another check up to rule out teeth and other probs etc...

I'd weigh everyday for the next week or so, we do that with 'Putt' just to keep a handle on things, I know it's a little neurotic but it's helped us spot problems as they have started.

Really hope William gets well soon x x

To put my mind at rest I popped William to the vets about 30 minutes ago - he's absolutely fine, nothing to be worried about.

Teeth are fine, bottom is fine, body is fine, ears, nose and eyes are fine, everything is fine.

I'm going to monitor him and make sure he gets even more R&R then he already gets to fatten him up a bit more. :))

Hi,
I am also quite worried about my increasing weight.
What should i do to overcome this fatty belly?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
