Hi guys,

It's quite some time since I posted on this forum and I come here in a time of desperation.

Willow, my five year old agouti mix and remaining girl of my original pair is missing, assumed stolen

On checking the pigs this morning, the hutch was closed and secure, as normal but Willow was missing.

There is no way she could have got out whilst the doors were closed so we can only assume that she has been taken.

Our hutch is three stories and home to five other pigs who are all safe and accounted for.

I'm stunned and devastated that anyone could have come into our garden and taken my sweet girl from her home.

If anyone is offered an adult agouti mix (mostly agouti with ginger splashes and a white mark on her forehead) please, please get in touch. We are in the Bolton area.

My other five pigs are moving to my mum's until I'm confident they will be safe here again

I'd be grateful if you could please keep your eyes peeled for me, especially if you are local to Westhoughton in Bolton

Thankyou

Awwwww I'm sorry :( To the above comment there is nothing wrong with having guinea pigs outside, lots of people do it as long as they are warm enough and stuff she hasn't done anything wrong in that area, just some sick person has decided to take a loved pet for their own enjoyment. I don't mean this in a rude way either just in case you take it the wrong way but having guinea pigs outside is common and safe if done right. I hope you find your piggy though little piggles!

Oh my God! I'm so sorry, this must be so shocking for you, there is the risk with hutches in the garden, but I don't know why they would've stole just 1 piggie?

That is so dreadful for you and totally not what you would expect. My piggies live in a hutch in the garden in the summer and this is not the kind of thing I would expect to happen at all!

I totally disagree with the comment made by Fayth, I think it was an incredibly rude and unhelpful thing to say, we are all entitled to our own opinions but people have to think about the way they say them.

I really hope Willow turns up and will certainly keep my internet eyes open for you.

Like I said I wasent trying to be rude
But I just don't think an outdoor hutch is sutible for a guinea pig
There are so many things that could go wrong
and some nights its cold!

I do hope you find her if you want to keep her outside on warmer nights it is your dessision not mine
But, if you decide that you can trust the outdoor hutch again maybe put a lock on the cage

Oh I am sorry to hear this :(

Is there a possibility that a neighbour could have taken her? May be a child? It is just something to think about may be.

You have done nothing wrong, I have known you for a long time and you take very good care of your piggies.

Try and knock on as many doors as possible to see if they know anything and contact local vets in the area just incase Willow is taken in. Hopefully someone, somewhere will know something.

I also suggest you contact your local newspaper and the police as if she has been taken, it is trespassing and theft.

There is no reason what so ever why guinea pigs can not be kept outside so long as their hutch is protected from the elements during the winter and precautions are made to keep them warm. My piggies live free range in a shed and previous to that, they lived in a bolted outdoor hutch.

Yes, there is always a risk but there is a risk with most things.

Everybody has the right to their own opinion but can we please just concentrate on offering support and advise to the OP who is obviously devastated by what has happened.

You will be so worried. Whilst you are out checking with neighbours try putting a cardboard box out with some fleece hay and a bit of food just in case Willow is nearby. Here's hoping you find her.

What an awful shock, so sorry. As ecohed above, knock on all neighbours and a good idea by Flintstones to checks bins etc...absolutely distressing for you. I hope you find her safe and sound. Please get the police involved also in matter of theft. Huge hugs x

Oh gosh. I'm so sorry to hear this! I know lately there has been a big rise on people sneaking into people's gardens and stealing their pets. Just the other month I watched a CCTV footage someone had on their house of this happening to their rabbit.

Heres the footage.

I hope you are able to find your piggie. x

Thanks for all your replies everyone x x

I've tried neighbours, but (typically!) very few have been in today. Will try everyone again tomorrow. Will also be printing a note and pinning to our fence and local lamp posts.

I'm really still in shock that anyone could have done this. I just pray that whoever took her has her warm and safe :(

Boris and my other girls have moved to my mum's for the timebeing to be on the safe side.

Thanks again for all your positive thoughts (I really do need them!), I'll keep you all posted of any developments

X x

Of course Claire, thankyou.

As it's now empty for the timebeing, I have left the bottom level of the hutch slightly open in the hope that someone's conscience kicks in and they return her safely x

Am so sorry Michelle, I really hope she turns up. Have shared on FB too as you know already.

So sorry.Hope you get her back safe. The people that do this should be put in a room full of animal lovers for a while. It's there any way you can put locks on the hutches so you can have your babies back with you

how awful, why would they have just taken one piggie? was she the prettiest? I am thinking of a child doing it....I hope your little piggie returns soon xx

Thanks again everyone. We'll be putting locks on the hutch for certain when they're back. I can't go through this again! :(

Taking just Willow really doesn't make sense. She is one of the friendliest of the bunch but doesn't especially like being picked up, so they would have had to have made a grab for her. The thing that I don't understand the most is that they closed the hutch back up again and put all the bolts in place. Like they were bothered about the others getting out.. The more I think the more it doesn't make any sense at all. Just makes me feel sick. :(

Thanks again for the positive thoughts x

Honestly I can't imagine what you're going through right now, especially since it doesn't make sense in the slightest. Hoping that she'll be returned safely, fingers crossed for you all x

That is absolutely awful and I am so sorry for you.
I kept some of my guinea pigs outside in hutch/run combos in my old house, it never crossed my mind that they might be stolen.

Can you post a photo of her, in case she appears on preloved/gumtree etc one of us might spot her?

I dont understand why anyone would steal a guinea pig....

Best of luck to you, I know how awful it is when you loose an animal as my cat was stolen (but we did get her back)

Cassandra x

I will share this on Facebook, I'm not in the area but hope it may help. I'm so sorry to hear what has happened to your guinea pig, she is beautiful - I sincerely hope you find her soon x
