After being on the phone to the vet a couple of times today to discuss Mary’s bladder/uti/cystitis problem, and also to ask if it’s okay to give Wilma Mary’s left over baytril as I noticed Wilma also had a pink stained wee last night. Tonight I’ve found a small lump behind her cheek.. It moves a little when you feel it. I’ve had an funny feeling since I got her that she’s got an underlying health problem. And it seems my gut instinct is right :( . She’s gained 100g in a week which is is why I decided to feel for lumps..
I’m now concerned her cute floppy double chin is actually just fluid/tumour or something bad?...

The exotic vet isn’t back from holiday until next week, But I’ll phone in the morning to book Wilma an appointment with my usual vet for Thursday.
How do they investigate what the lump is? Do they stick a needle in and test it? Or will she have to have an X-ray?
😢

Hi!

Firstly, a lump sitting loosely in the skin is generally good news. The real nasties are usually firmly anchored in the body.

How soon you want it checked depends on how quickly it is growing. If it continues to grow quickly, then I would see a vet promptly, otherwise you can have it seen at your convenience the next time you have a regular appointment.

How long have you had Wilma?

That’s a small relief that it could possibly be nothing too too nasty, Thank you!
Well Mary has her appointment on Friday the 7th of Feb to investigate her possible cystitis problem, as that’s the earliest appointment I could get with the exotic due to him being away and me working. So I could get Wilma seen to on the same appointment?
But I feel I’d be worrying the whole tile until then that her lump is growing or she has more.. So I could get my regular vet to take a look on Thursday and take a sample? And then my thinking was, if Wilma needs it removed the exotic vet could do it next Friday with Mary’s appointment?

Good job I’ve been working extra lately.. This is all going to cost so much..

I got Wilma on the 7th of Jan, so just under a month I’ve had her. She’s about 3 years old

If it is going to be a cause for concern than i would take the earlier appointment.
When my lot have had lumps and bumps in the past the vet has always examined them first and then (based on the examination) suggested various further testing, and in one case no testing at all - just wait and see.
Testing could be just a quick needle biopsy or an x-ray or scan.
But honestly most vets can tell a lot more than you would think just from how the lump feels and it's location.

Betsy's had a couple of lumps for around 3 years. They move around. They one on her shoulder moves like its a ganglion (a cyst on the nerves) and the other in her armpit moves only slightly. The vet wasn't particularly worried about them and neither am I.

Thanks everyone.
I gave her another check this morning and unfortunately I do feel she may have more in her neck 😢
It’s hard to tell as she’s a big girl and her chin/neck is all squidgy and soft.
She weighs 1550g
vet appointment at 11.15am tomorrow.

Sorry no real advice, but good luck, fingers & paws all crossed here for the vets tomorrow, hopefully it's a fatty lump or benign sebaceous cyst or something easy to sort.
The girls & I send healing vibes for your gorgeous fuzzy chunkster girl... & Mary too.
Xx

Dot had a small lump the size of a skittle probably, on her left side, my vet felt it but wasn't concerned, at the time she had bigger issues to see to, I felt for it recently, and couldn't even find the lump again now. Good luck at the vets 🙂

Awww best of luck with Wilma .. hope it's nothing too serious x

Good luck at the vets, hopefully its nothing serious but at least the vet can let you know what you are dealing with x

All fingers and paws crossed here x

We’ve just got back from the vets. Wilma was not impressed with having a needle jabbed in her to get a sample!
We did unfortunately locate a few lumps, in her armpit/cheek area on both sides, and possible in her chin area.
Vet suggested something about it being in the Lymph node areas.
Hopefully get results from the sample tomorrow, if not, then Monday. Until then we stay positive ..
I gave her some cucumber at the vet so it wasn’t all bad..she begrudgingly ate the cucumber but still wasn’t impressed..
