This morning I made the decision to call in sick to work and take Miss Willamena into the out of hours vets to let her go.
Yesterday I could tell she’d suddenly gone a bit downhill, she ate some grass and some salad leaves but I knew she wasn’t feeling too well. When I got home from work I picked her some more grass which she ate some of, but she hid away for most of the evening and her breathing had become more difficult. She wheeeeked for her dinner and came out to watch as I was making it but she couldn’t manage to eat much of it.
My partner and I got up nice and early to take her in this morning. She ate a bit of grass on the way.
My vet is so lovely, despite being there on her own for emergencies today, and we turned up at the same time she was opening up (I did call on the way) she was fantastic and compassionate.
My sweet Wilma,
Your adorable little face helped me do nothing but smile,
Even though I only had the pleasure of knowing you for a short while.
The first moment I saw you I knew I loved you,
The fridge would open and you’d wheeeek on cue.
Sweet green grass and dandelions is what made your day,
Although sometimes I’d find you snuggled deep within the hay.
I hoped you’d live a long and happy life with me and the herd,
But rainbow bridge wanted you to grow wings just like a bird.
Good night, Wilma. Sleep well.
