Hi all, I weighed my pigs this morning (I do it weekly) and winnie has gone from 7.5oz last week to 14.5 oz this week. To me this doesn't seem normal and I wasn't expecting it! Am I right to be worried? The last few days I have noticed that she has got a little chubbier and her belly rounder. The thought of pregnancy has crossed my mind. What do you guys think? Of course there is the possibility of dodgy scales, however, my other pig effie has only put on 1.5oz in the past week so I doubt it is the scales. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

How old are Winnie & Effie? Their weights seam very low unless they are only a few weeks old. My guinea pigs range from 2lb 8oz to 3lb and they are from 1 to 4 1/2 years old.

I would weigh again. 200g in one week is a LOT, even for a pregnant sow about to give birth to large litter! Highly pregnant sows can put up 80-100g in the last week or so, but by that stage they are virtually bursting and there is no mistaking their state.

Young guinea pigs coming into a new home with a good diet can make a sudden jump in weight, but normal is about up to 50g. The average growth rate is about 20g for young piggies sub 4-6 months old, but it can be a bit more or less.

They are babies, I'm guessing around 7 weeks old but was never told how old exactly.

Thank you this is really helpful, I will wait and see what she weighs next week as I suspect last weeks weight was wrong somehow.
