Hello everyone,
I've had my two boars for about five months now. When i bought them i assumed they would be perfectly happy outside all year just like my bun and wasn't told any different. Now looking on here i've found out that people bring them in doors. Does everyone bring them inside because ive no idea where id put them. I do have a very big shed if that is ok? What do you all think?

Mine will be in the shed this winter, but it is insulated and also will ave a heater but i think a shed will be fine because it gets them out of the wind and rain.

Just move them into the shed in thier hutch ;) guineas cannot cope with cold and damp that winter brings. Many of us have heated sheds ect but just out of the cold horrid weather is better for them ;)

even if the shed isn't heated it will keep them out of the cold, wind, and rain. it's the damp weather that can make them ill,
mine are in my utility room/shed. they will be better in there than outside.

I used to keep mine out side, but then decide to keep them indoors as i didnt want them to get cold.
I have a c & c cage in my kitchen
If it is fine enough i put them on the lawn
I wouldnt like to be outside in the winter so I'm not going to subject my piggies to it either

mine are in a shed too! I've kitted it out so during the day they have the their hutch doors open and the run of the whole shed (OH made them a ramp so they can go in and out of the hutch whenever they please) and at bed time I lock them back in their hutch and cover with blankets , when it gets super cold I will put a heater out there for them :smitten:

Thanks everyone for your replies.

I'm outside tomorrow to sort out the shed and see what i can do to keep my boys happy and healthy during the winter :smitten: :smitten:

I just leave mine where they are - Some outside in a hutch and some in my shed - They are perfectly fine where they are i only ever cover them up when its snowing and really cold :D

Some of mine are in a shed and some are outside. In the winter I just make sure they have extra loads of hay to snuggle into and I also cover the outside hutches at night. The hutches are all raised off the ground and they are in a sheltered area. I have kept piggies like this for years and have never had any problems with them.

It's reassuring to hear that some of you keep your guineas outside all year round. i was panicing a bit as it seems everyone says to bring them inside. Unfortunately I don't have a shed at the moment as we are in the process of building a new one and i don't have any room inside. I only had my guineas in June therefore it is my first winter with them.

I already cover my hutches in the nights with a tarpaulin sheet to protect them. They have log cabins in their hutches to cuddle up in, also I intend to give them extra bedding and hay to keep warm during the winter. When it gets very cold I will cover the hutches in a fleece sort of thing and then the tarpaulin sheet, obviously well ventilated. Heat pads are also an option.

Does this sound ok for the winter? Any tips would be appreciated.
:D

I was panicking too! Thats what i'm going to do!

I am glad that sounds OK. I love my guineas so much I want to make sure I am doing my best for them! :smitten:

This forum is great as being new to guinea pigs I've had lots of questions answered and I'm sure I'll be asking a lot more!

Piggies cannot cope with the cold and damp air that this country (england) has it can and does cause many problems health wise for them. Inside a shed even if its not heated is better than in a hutch in the garden. Yes you can cover them at night ect but its far better health wise yours and theres to give them a dryer better living space during the winter months :)

just becareful putting them in and out over winter
nearly lost Star a few years back through a chest infection brought on by doing that i tend to leave them out for most of the time with extra insulation and bring them in when its really cold

I've wrapped my husband around my little finger yet again! :)

Even though I was quite satisfied with the plans that I'd made for my guineas to stay outside during the winter i.e. cozies, fleeces, heat pads etc... niggling at the back of my mind was the fact that that maybe they really should be inside.

My husband has given in and we are buying a wooden garden shed especially for my babies! My son and I are so excited to have our own guinea heaven! My son says he's going to make a sign for the shed saying "Guinea World."
