Hi, I got 2 piggies last Sunday, they were coming on brilliantly this week - becoming more confident, enjoying social time, even taking treats out of my hand. So on Friday I extended their run (c&c cage) and added a second floor. Initially they both had a good look around and appeared to enjoy exploring but now they are just hiding in their beds and not really coming out, apart from for food.

Do they not like change?

Guinea pigs can be very wary of new potentially hostile territory and wide open areas. Give them time; it can take a few days. Peg a blanket over the top to give them a feeling of protection and try to lure them up with wiping a rag over them and then up the ramp and over the new bedding in the floor to make it smell like their territory. Alternatively, use their soiled bedding on the other floor to help lure them up and give them a feeling of safety.

I bought my piggies a new bigger cage a couple of months ago as the one I got from the pet shop with them was far to small and my avatar pig was getting depressed and they took a while to get used to the new cage and fleece set up and would only eat when everyone was gone from the room but now they love the extra space. I think change makes them a bit nervous but they will come around and will grow to love the new extensions you have made for them :)
